NSUYES on a field trip

Hasin Abrar & Redwan Rahman

YOUNG Entrepreneur Society (YES), an undergraduate business and a leading student activity club of North South University organized a fieldtrip to Coca Cola factory at Comilla on 4th April. The objective of this fieldtrip was to observe and learn the production process of Coca Cola. More than a hundred students of North South University attended the fieldtrip with the guidance of the University Proctor Iqbalur Rahman Rokon and club Faculty Advisor Tashfeen Hussain.

After a very lively and joyous trip all the way from NSU campus to Comilla, the students were warmly welcomed at the Coca Cola plant. He gave a brief idea about the production process and then introduced the production team managers to the students. He also informed about the rules and regulation that we were to follow while visiting the highly technical plant.

Production Managers divided the students in three groups and took them to the plant to show the production process. There are several sections of the production process, each linked very systematically with the other. Students were taken to these different units one after the other. The different units included bottle production section, filling section, labeling and packaging section, can production section, can-filing section, and recycling section. Managers showed the students how bottles and cans were produced and they go for filling. It was really interesting to see how a little test-tube sized plastic object can be turned into the plastic bottles we see in store within seconds by using special machines. We were also shown the labeling and packaging process. Then the managers showed students how glass bottles were recycled and washed. Students asked different questions and the managers enthusiastically answered and made them clear.

Afterwards the students had a question answer session with plant manager Mr. Daniel. He convinced everyone why Coca Cola is the best and has a wider demand around the world. He also shared the products that Coca Cola is going to launch this year. Moreover, students shared their thoughts and advice on how Coka Cola can improve its quality in future.

At the end, a small closing ceremony was arranged. Mr. Mohiuddin Monem, Managing Director of Coca Cola (Monem group), was present at the ceremony. Mr. Mohiuddin Monem said that it was a great pleasure for them to have the students from NSU to visit their plant. He thanked everyone for visiting the plant. The ceremony ended by exchanging wishes and handing over crests. University Proctor and club Faculty Advisor handed over crest to Mr. Mohiuddin Monem on behalf of the students and thanked them for allowing us to visit their plant.

The students were delighted to visit one of the most world renowned brand's production plant. NSU Young Entrepreneurs Society plans to visit more of such industries in near future so that the students can learn and have first hand experiences to boost their knowledge.
