AN ecstatic wave hit BUET recently! The Civil Engineering Students' Association, CESA of BUET organized a three day Civil Engineering Festival, more commonly known among the students as 'Civilfest' on 27, 28 and 29th May 2009.The civil festival, an annual event had a title sponsor of Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills Ltd (RSRM).

This year the program started at noon with a rally. In the evening the formal session was inaugurated by the VC Dr. MM Shafiullah. He also introduced the magazine 'Srishty', on the occasion of this festival. 'Srishty' includes write-ups of respected teachers and students. There was a technical presentation by the teachers after that. Second day was dedicated to culture .

The festival started with a stage drama, 'Dakghor' ('The Post Office') by Rabindranath Tagore performed and organized by students. For the first time a stage drama was performed in any departmental program in BUET.

The festival presented some praiseworthy telefilms too. 'Ek mutho neel', a batch 05 production, depicted a story of friendship. It was followed by a music video named 'Shomoy', written, tuned and sung by Avipriyo.

Another telefilm, 'Smrity Folok', was in memory of the martyrs of BUET in 1971.This was a production of batch 05.

Then there was a telefilm, 'Icchepuron', starring our teacher Dr. Munaz Ahmed Noor.Inspired from the legendary story of exchanging souls by Rabindranath Tagore; in this play the soul of the student was altered with his strictest teacher! Later came the 'Cultural Night'. It was a summation of a number of performances. The songs, 'Ekattorer Chithi', the duet dance and the 'Fashion Drama' featured several teachers. Another outstanding segment was Professor Dr. Shamim Z Bosunia's impressive and witty speech.

The software exhibition was not only an exhibition this year but it was also an inter-varsity competition. Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, Stamford University, Military Institute of Science & Technology participated in it along with BUET. The champions were Stamford University, securing second and third place were two BUET teams.

Civil engineering related material producers and suppliers and various organizations participated in the material exhibition. Including title sponsor RSRM, Bashundhara Group, Holcim, BSRM, Shera, Hilti, Overseas Marketing Corp. (OMC), Uttaran structural designers Ltd., Polyfitt, Sylvia etc. It was also participated by WBB trust & Bangladesh Network office for Urban Safety (BNUS). This exhibition lasted for 3days parallel to other activities since the first day.

On the third day the mega concert was a real attraction! Not only the students of BUET, but also some of our teachers were seen enjoying Shironamhin and Warfaze together, two of the blazing leaders of today's favourite playlists! When Shironamhin took over the stage, the crowd roared! Later Warfaze left us bewildered! Crematic-X, Defy, Inferno, HammerCloth, Rock Amalgam and other bands also performed.
