Annual function, freshers’ reception and farewell at Little Jewels School, Chittagong

Mahjabeen

THE annual function, farewell to the O' and A' levels and welcoming the new A' levels students of Little Jewels School (LJS), Chittagong, was held recently at the Institution of Engineers, Chittagong.

The program started off in the evening and were attended by a large number of students, teachers, parents and distinguished guests. In her welcoming speech, the principal of the school, Dilruba Ahmed, expressed that the school accomplished yet another feat when the students excelled in their O' and A' levels examination in 2008-2009 session. “It's really good to see such a large number of students achieving excellent results in their examination. I'm proud of them and firmly believe that they will go even further to make a better Bangladesh, because they are the real jewels of Little Jewels School, who are not only academic but also involved in several extra-curricular activities”, she said. She thanked the teachers and parents for their constant support in preparing the students for a challenging future.

After her speech, she called upon all the outgoing students and awarded them with medals for their brilliant results as well as cash awards to the highest achievers. This was followed by speeches from the award recipients, where they shared their memories, thoughts and aims besides thanking the school for what they are. Right after the formal session, the glittering cultural program started portraying Bangladesh's ethnicity and culture through musical drama, songs, well choreographed dances, comedy drama and so on.

The main attraction of the programme was the exhibition of the SAARC countries which depicted the art, culture, and tradition of all the SAARC nations and also sending a message of the necessity of the regional cooperation for the betterment of the world. Dressed in the national attires of all the SAARC countries, the students presented the magnificence of those nations. And of course there was our very own Rabindranath Tagore's Geetinatya which was quite soulful. Apart from these, there were a good number of Bengali songs and brilliantly choreographed dances which entertained the large crowd. The breathe-taking trial scene of the play “Merchant of Venice” by Shakespeare was also portrayed by the students of class nine. There was also stunning fashion shows modeled by the outgoing O' Level students.

However the ultimate performance which stole the show was the comedy drama titled, “Pudinar Bedona”, the in-house production of the outgoing O' level students which made the entire audience to laugh their heart out.
