A rockstar in our midst

LUCK…runs…out!” Anybody familiar to Metallica's new album 'Death Magnet' would probably know these three words by heart now.

As rock becomes more and more popular in our country, some talented youths flood in to become iconic figures in this genre. Such a rocker is Samir Hafiz. Most of you know him as the Djuice Rockstar or Powersurge's lead guitarist. Winner of the Channel-I- Djuice DRockstar competition (of 2007), the band has attained immense popularity especially after their album 'Auprostut Juddho'. Out of 300 enthusiastic guitarists, Samir won the best leading guitarist award and since then he never stopped. He soared high to the ultimate pinnacle of heavy metal music. Some of his solos and compositions had even reached international recognition.

THE students and teachers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh University of engineering and Technology (BUET), gathered in the Central Auditorium of BUET to take part in a seminar titled 'Career Planning and Guidance' on 5th June. Prothom-alojobs.com, a leading job portal of Bangladesh organized this seminar. The seminar was conducted in the BUET Job Fair 2009 which was organized by the Mechanical Engineering Association, BUET.

Among others, the seminar was attended by Professor Abdur Rashid Sarker, Dean, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Md. Ehsan and Dr. Kamrul Islam. The guest speakers were Arif Shahriar, Group Head of HR, Rahimafrooz Bangladesh limited, Jishu Tarafder, Lead Consultant and CEO, CorporateCoach, Munir Hasan Khan, Founder and CEO, Impra Consulting International, USA.

Arif Shahriar delighted the audience with his knowledge on career of an engineer in a corporate organization. Jishu Tarafder enlightened the audience by narrating the importance of Softskill Training for the Engineers. Munir Hasan Khan focused on creating awareness of the basic skills of communication and positive mind frame.

Riyad Hossain, Chief Operating Officer, Prothom-alojobs.com moderated the seminar sessions. Faculty members and students participated enthusiastically in the Question-and-Answer session. Professor Md. Ehsan, BUET ended the seminar with his concluding remarks and vote of thanks.
