ISD's grant for disabled children

THE Parent Teacher's Association (PTA) of International School Dhaka (ISD) held its Annual Charity Ball at the Radisson Hotel recently. As a part of their Community Service Programme, PTA of ISD donated Tk 1,50,000 from proceeds raised at the ball organized for CRP. The event was aimed at raising awareness regarding the provision for special sitting units for disabled children. Ms Lubana Hussain, President of ISD PTA with Ms Renu Paryani and Mr Stephen Murray, CEO of ISD presented the cheque to Ms Valerie Taylor, Founder Coordinator of CRP.

AN Orientation Program of BBA & CSE Program 9th Batch students of Daffodil Institute of IT, an affiliated institute under National University was held at DIU Auditorium on 15 June 2009. The program was presided over by Md. Shafiqul Islam, Principal (In-charge), DIIT. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Goverining Body, DIIT and Dr. Fakir Rafiqul Alam, Dean (In-Charge) of National University were present as the chief guest and the special guest respectively. Md. Nuruzzaman, Executive Director, DIIT and Dr. Mostafa Kamal Adviser, DIIT were present in the ceremony as the keynote speakers.


AIUB Cisco Academy hands out certificates to police officers

THE first batch of police officers from the Police Telecom department was awarded their CCNA-1 completion certificate recently, at the Cisco Lab, under the AIUB Cisco Regional Academy. The group of 18 police officers was headed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mosharraf Hossain. The certificates were handed over to the successful candidates by Rezaur Razzak, Director-Continuing Education Centre at AIUB. Lutfar Rahman, Director-Public Relations of AIUB was also present at that time. This training programme was coordinated by Asst. Professor Manirul Islam, Coordinator - Continuing Education Centre, AIUB.

This training programme is part of the efforts of the top management of the police department to modernize the police force by developing their human resource capability, especially in the area of information and communication technology. After completing programme of the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) course, the police officers will be able to independently design, develop, and manage their own computer networks, boosting the police force's ability to maintain law and order with an added technological edge. It may be mentioned here that more than 1000 police and RAB officers have already been trained under the same training program in different ICT and language courses from AIUB. This training programme for government officials is part of AIUB's community outreach program to share their technical knowledge with other sections of the society and to make a tangible contribution in the government's vision of Digital Bangladesh.

It is also mentioned that the Annual SAARC conference of CISCO Networking Academy held recently in Bangalore, India, has awarded certificate of top most creditability to the AIUB for obtaining the first position in respect to the highest enrolment in the CISCO Networking Program in the SAARC Region between April 2008 to March 2009.


Seminar on 'Career Planning at BUET

Prothom-alojobs.com and Mechanical Engineering Association, BUET organised a seminar titled “Career Planning and Guidance” on 5th June in the Central Auditorium of BUET. Professor Abdur Rashid Sarker, Dean, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Mod. Ehsan and Dr. Kamrul Islam attended the seminar.

The guest speakers were Arif Shahriar ,Group Head of HR, Rahimafrooz Bangladesh limited, Jishu Tarafder, Lead Consultant and CEO, CorporateCoach™, Munir Hasan Khan,Founder and CEO, Impra Consulting International, USA.

Arif Shahriar delighted the audience with his knowledge on career of an engineer in a corporate organisation. Jishu Tarafder enlightened the audience by narrating the importance of Softskill Training for the Engineers. Munir Hasan Khan focused on creating awareness of the basic skills of communication and positive mind frame. Riyad Hossain, Chief Operating Officer, Prothom-alojobs.com moderated the seminar sessions.

Faculty members and students participated enthusiastically in the Question-and-Answer session. Professor Md. Ehsan, BUET ended the seminar with his concluding remarks and vote of thanks.


Knowledge through Practical Exposure

WHEN learning is limited to books, it can only open eyes to an extent, where as combining books and practical observation not only opens eyes, but sends signals to the brain to restore information and recollect when necessary and give order to other organs to react accordingly. Thus, learning with practical experience widens the horizon of knowledge and give students appropriate exposure to corporate culture. East West MBA club engraves this concept to its vision.

Throughout this field EWU MBA students got exposed to the operational process of the DBL group. The programme was formally inaugurated by Sr. HR Manager, DBL group. He revealed the company's background, business structure, processes and policies through a power point presentation. Throughout the presentation, students learnt how effectively DBL group has combined backward and forward linkage. DBL's commitment towards its employees was revealed through this presentation. Later, operational managers lead the students to different sections of the company starting from thread preparation to packaging section.

After lunch, the MBA club arranged a session for the newcomers. All the newcomers revealed their background and their interests and talents. Some sang, some said jokes and some did a bit of acting. After voting, five students were given prizes. The session was made more appeasing by the presence of the EWU MBA coordinator, Dr. Nazrul Islam.


'Rabindra- Nazrul Birth Anniversary 1416' observed in CU

THE legendary poets Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam's birth anniversary 1416 were solemnized in the Social-science auditorium of University of Chittagong on 9th June. To commemorate the event, a discussion and cultural programme was arranged. The programme saw the presence of CU Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr. Abu Yusuf as the honourable Chief Guest,Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) Dr. Md. Alauddin as the special guest and Professor Dr. Souren Biswas, Dept. of Bangla as the chair. Among others who spoke a few words in the program were Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman (DU) and Md. Jashim Uddin, Chairmen, Dept. of Fine arts, CU.

The function included a cultural programme, in which eminent Rabindra Sangeet artiste Aditi Mohsin and Nazrul Sangeet artiste Sujit Mostafa sang a good number of songs.Both Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam's works will remain as legacies in our literature.


Comilla University Day Observed

Comilla University day was observed on 28 May taking the oath of making a globally recognized and renowned university. Various kinds of programmes were organized at the university campus. A colourful procession was brought out on the University premises in the morning. Afterwards, a discussion session was held where the speakers described the university to be a dream come true of the people of Comilla. They pledged to come forward to make the university a globally recognized university. Treasurer Gopal Chandra Sen, Proctor Abu Jafor, Hall Provost Md. Soriful Karim and Zakir Saidullah and several students of the university delivered their speeches at the discussion.

 


Stamford wins Inter University T20 Cricket

STAMFORD University Cricket Team has won the Championship trophy of `T20 Inter University Cricket tournament 2009', defeating Daffodil International University by 77 runs. Twelve teams participated in the tournament. Farhad Reza of Stamford University got the man of the match by his stunning 37 runs & 2 wickets for 4 runs to pave the way for the victory of Stamford University team.

Rabindra-Nazrul Joyontee observed at ULAB

TO celebrate the birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organised a seminar and a film show recently at its auditorium. Professor Anisur Rahman one of the eminent Rabindra Sangeet singers and researcher spoke on the occasion while Professor Rafiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB presided the seminar. 'Bhubon Bhora Sur' a film on the music of Tagore, anchored by Professor Anisur Rahman and a documentary on Kazi Nazrul Islam produced by Channel Four of Britain were screened. The programme was attended by a large number of students, faculty members and invited guests.
