Get changed. Bring change

Siddiqur Rahman Apu

DUE to a lack of proper leadership we are still stuck in the proverbial socio-economic pit that we dug ourselves many decades ago. We have a huge manpower and many natural resources but we do not get our desired economic status due to lack of implementation of these resources. We used to have enormous resource of fresh water reservoir but now this valuable resources are getting polluted. Valuable natural resources like gas are used very carelessly; we keep our stove running for hours just to save a single matchstick. We usually forget to close the lights, fans etc when we leave a room, which causes a great loss to our ever diminishing electricity supply. Every year millions of dollars are looted by corrupt people in both public and private sectors. Consequently we are the champions of corruption. The most corrupt sector in our country is politics.

It's unfortunate that we never got a leader who could lead the country in the right direction. Leadership is a cornerstone behind any successful endeavour whether its politics or social welfare. All the problems of a state can be solved by successful political leadership, which can lead the country move forward. Successful leadership increases the wealth in business and plays a pivotal role in improving the economic status. Similarly, proper leadership in social activities can also increase success rate of human welfare. In other words, leadership in all spheres of society is a pre-condition for a prospering country.

We need leaders who can keep their words, who can come forward and take the responsibilities without getting involved in blame game. A good leader should be mentally powerful and have the power to awake others, organize them and solve the problem with best utilization of resources. A good leader should never give up in any adverse conditions or run away. A good leader needs to be creative. Above all, a good leader needs to be the merchant of change.

No person is born with such qualities but he or she has to develop these qualities through time. If we look at the life of Mahatma Gandhi we can see that his early life was different but he made changes and emerged as one of the greatest leaders in human history.

It is high time for change. Change is occurring throughout the world. The 44th American president and our prime minister came to power with the election manifesto of change. It is not possible to bring about greater social changes without a change in one's own behavior. If we, near about 16 crore people, commit to ourselves not to do just one thing which is bad for our country I think it will make an immense change in our society. We need to change by changing our mentality, our attitude, and our approach for an economically thriving country, which was dreamt by the martyrs of our Liberation War.
