Graduation Ceremonies of Scholastica

Fariha Ishrat Khandaker

EVER wonder whether that elation and joy that most of us felt when we were handed our high school graduation certificates was still the same for every succeeding batch? Well, by the looks of the recent graduation ceremony at Scholastica, its safe to say that every one feels the same way. A three day program was held at the STM Hall at the end of June to award not only those completing their O'levels, but also the academic achievement awards for high score achievers from sixth to eleventh grade students.

The first two days were for the academic achievement awards of class six to nine and eleven. As true to Scholastican tradition, the programs were started off by recitations from the Quran; followed by a play based on Sir Arthur Conan Dolye's "Three Students", from the renowned Sherlock Holmes series, which was performed by very talented students of class six. The certificates were handed out in turn by the Deputy Chairperson, Wasima Parveen, and Deputy Managing Director, Madiha Murshed.

The highlight of the ceremonial triad was the final day that was reserved for the O'level graduates. The theme for the graduation ceremony was the 'environment and its conservation'. The students through their songs and poems and dances conveyed this message as to how our world is slowly being eaten away by pollution and our actions. They expressed the important notion of how it is our responsibility to protect and conserve this world so that our future generations are able to live in harmony. This message was also given at the other two programs, but with greater effectiveness at the main graduation ceremony. Also, there was a tribute to the late pop music legend, Michael Jackson, with his famous songs like 'the Earth' and others.

The main part of the event was the handing over of the graduation certificates by the class teachers and the top management of the school. There were also special certificates given to those students for achieving an overall high score and also for having a high level of class attendance. Then there were certificates for those who received the highest score in individual subjects. Afterwards, there were encouraging speeches from the valedictorians, Shafwat Tanvir and Ghazi Kamrul Abedin. The programs were ended with speeches from Wasima Parveen and Madiha Murshed and the singing of our national anthem.

Congratulations to graduates of O'levels '09 and best of luck for the future!
