And it's called Yellow…

Fariha Ishrat Khandaker

IF the artistic worlds from all over the cosmos collided, then the supernova of an elitist spectrum would be created; and the elected winner of all subterranean colours would be…..you guessed it… Yellow! If the endless paint smeared artists, the hyperactive bumble bees, the river of daisies in full bloom and the interestingly curious caution signs doesn't do enough to earn your respect for this imminent shade then you ought to have your eyes checked. There are some colour blind people; but do not worry it's not your fault.

So, how about that ride on that big yellow taxi, just to take a look around? Maybe, just maybe, we could see those bumble bees in action. Associated by a cheery disposition, this little colour bursts out with enthusiasm, while all the other little colours can go do their own things. Because it's a bit more than the big 'smiley face' going full frontal when it comes to spreading the word of happiness; the pretty little bee buzzing atop of a sunflower petal wondering why everything doesn't seem all that daunting as they said it would be when it was inside the colony. And, no matter how hard one shifts through the yellow pages, the secret to that big smile can be found when you dapple a bit of sunshine into your life.

Moreover, the Chinese and the Thai often has royalty attached to this spectrum of light with a wavelength of 570580 nm; where it just so happens that anyone can dress up in flashy yellow on a Monday. Well apparently, for the Thai population prosperity never shone more brightly than when their king was born on that particular day of the week. One can easily get lost on a blinding summer Monday morning in Bangkok where the shades are needed even indoors. This colour is so amazingly cool that in the ancient Mayans associated this colour to mean “precious”. And might one add that even though there is a slight connotation with this shade as a symbol of cowardice, it's really difficult to think that something that is considered as a ray of harmony is embodied in anyone with a fleeting tendency. Funny how the contradictions in life stand only as mere oxymorons which are best treated as nonchalant indulgences.

After all, this isn't an ode to all you Coldplay fans out there, but just a reminder that a world without sunshine in its most glorious and excited shade, wouldn't really be so happy and mellow; after all we all need a bit of yellow. So as they say… keep following that yellow brick road.
