“Fun Under the Monsoon Sun” Summer Programme 2009

THIS July, Scholastica hosted a summer programme called “Fun Under The Monsoon Sun” for the first time. The Summer Programme Graduation Ceremony was held at STM Hall at the Senior Campus on Sunday July 26, 2009. Parents, school personnel, faculty and students were all present to witness students' presentation on what they learned over the courses of the summer programme, and to receive the certificates of their participation. The three-week programme started on July 5 and ended on July 23, 2009. It was held at the Uttara Senior Section premises of Scholastica.

This was the first year in its long history that Scholastica offered a summer programme for the students of Class III to IX. The programme was designed to occupy students in a productive and enjoyable manner over the long summer holiday. There were 10 subjects under 4 different categories: IT, Arts, Sports and Academics. Students were given the freedom to choose three subjects from the offered subjects.

The summer programme was innovative in the sense it did not incorporate the regular school curriculum. Instead, the subjects offered developed alternative and creative topics, including photography, film-making, dance, website development and graphic designing. The faculty were recruited either from Scholastica's own faculty or from external sources. In some cases, they were professionals working in the field who gave their time to educate the youth.

The presentations of the students during the Graduation Ceremony showed that each and every one enjoyed their summer very much and Scholastica is now looking forward to a bigger and better programme next year.
