National CISCO Skills Competition

AIUB hosted the 2nd National CISCO Skills Competition 2009, where 47 teams comprising 141 Cisco Academy graduates of CCNA (Students of Computer Network Engineering) from 13 universities across Bangladesh took part in the event.

The competition comprised of three different parts, starting with an on-line MCQ, followed by a Packet-Tracer contest, and finally a computer network-troubleshooting round. The panel of judges and the question setting committees comprised of senior faculty members of several universities around Bangladesh. All the teams, particularly AIUB and BUET showed outstanding performance in the event. The Champions trophy was once again won by an AIUB team called the AIUB-Leaders, while both the 1st Runner's Up, and 2nd Runner's Up trophies were won by two teams from BUET. The champions will be taking part in the SAARC Regional Competition as well as the Asia Pacific Regional Competition later this year. The winning team, AIUB Leaders consisted of three CS graduates Mohammad Saiedur Rahaman, Mohammad Saidur Rahman and Ahmed Ridwanul Islam. The competition was organised by Continuing Education Center (CEC) of AIUB.

At the end of the competition Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the honorable VC of AIUB handed over the crest of championship. Among other distinguished guests from the country and abroad Dr. Anwarul Abedin, honorable chairman of AIUB-Board of Trustees, Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, honorable VP-academics of AIUB, Lokesh Mehra, Regional Manager, South Asia of behalf of CISCO, Mr. Jagan Jothivel, Area Academy Manager, CISCO Systems India (pvt.) Limited, Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, honorable Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology of AIUB, Rezaur Razzak, Director CEC of AIUB, Manirul Islam, Coordinator CEC of AIUB were also present.


BRAC Law School wins
National Moot Competition

THE School of Law of BRAC University won the 5th National Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition held in Dhaka University from 20 22 August. The competition was organised by the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University with support from the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). Law students of 12 public and private universities of the country, including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, BRAC, Eastern, South East, Northern, Premier, Stamford, UODA, Sylhet International and Dhaka International participated in the competition. Eminent lawyers including Dr Naim Ahmed, Dr Quazi Reza Ul Hoque, Advocate Adilur Rahman Khan, Additional Attorney General M Khalilur Rahman, Honourble Judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court including Justice Ms Naima Haider, Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, Justice Dr. Syed Reefat Ahmed, Justice Mifta Uddin Chowdhury and others judged the various stages of the competition.

Law students of Chittagong University and the School of Law of BRAC University reached the Final of the competition. Mr Justice Syed Dastagir Hossain, Mr Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Brig General Nur Mohammad were the judges for the Final round and the Mooters of the School of Law of BRAC University were declared the winners of the competition. M Sanjeeb Hossain, Kazi Tuney Binte Zinnat and Mushina Farhat Chowdhury represented the School of Law of BRAC University along with the team coach, Dr. Tureen Afroz, Assistant Professor of Law of the School of Law.

Dhaka University won the prizes for the best research and memo while Dewan Mourin Anwar of South-East University was declared the best Mooter.

The BRAC University winning team will represent Bangladesh in the upcoming regional round of Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition to be held during 15 - 17 September 2009.
