Iftar feast at Sarina

LAST Sunday I had gone to Hotel Sarina for some official work. It was already late afternoon and soon I heard the Maghrib Azan, which meant time to break the daylong fast. The hotel management offered me complimentary iftar, which at that moment was difficult for me to refuse. Mr Salahuddin Ahmed, PRO of Sarina joined me at iftar, which was laid out at the Indian restaurant Amrit. I was quite impressed by the tastefully decorated restaurant reminding me of Rajsthan, India. The iftar items turned out to be as varied as possible with around 50 items set to suit everyone's taste. A mix of Middle-Eastern, Indian, Continental and Bangladeshi cuisine were served in the buffet. The beverage corner allows you to choose from two different drinks that include lemon sharbat, sweet lassi, mixed fruit juice and many more. While the cold corner gives a wide range of choices from Iranian hammus, mutable to Indian papri chat, masala skinless chana, papadom and other salads that will give you a sense of refreshment as you break the day long fast. The main dishes were served in the Hot corner where selection of kebabs and Hotel Sarina's special delectable Halim is a must try. Followed by iftar came the option from three kinds of Indian sweets like Amrit Zillapi, three kinds of Arabic sweets and two kinds of Continental sweets and fresh fruits.

"We always try to maintain the best quality in our dishes. Every item is cooked to perfection where imported spices are used to retain the authenticity of the recipes," said Norbert D Costa, Executive Chef of Hotel Sarina. Hotel Sarina's Amrit restaurant accommodates around 80 people. Iftar buffet are served from 6.30 pm and is priced Tk. 975++.

Perdana college of Malaysia welcome UCSI university president

THE Group President of UCSI University, Peter T. S. Ng, together with his Executive Officer Dr. Lachman Tarachand were warmly welcomed by Perdana College last month. They were here for evaluation and planning purposes for the welfare of Perdana College of Malaysia. UCSI University is the parent university of Perdana College.

During their visit, the UCSI Alumni Association- Bangladesh chapter was launched. The Minister of Education, His Excellency, Nurul Islam Nahid, M.P., officially launched the Alumni Chapter in the ceremony held at Lake Shore Hotel. In his speech, the minister exhorted the alumni to think ahead and build a new dynamic nation forging towards the goal of a digital Bangladesh by the year 2021. He noted the importance of change in the education sector to ensure the country's continued rapid progress. The new High Commissioner of Malaysia in Bangladesh, His Excellency, Jamaluddin Sabeh also shared about the need for well equipped human resources to achieve the dreams of Digital Bangladesh. Among the other special guests who arrived were the President of BMCCI Salahuddin Kasem Khan, and MD of somewherein… Arild Klokkerhaug. The launching ceremony was a resounding success as UCSI University graduates spoke of their experiences in Perdana College and in UCSI University. These graduates are a shining trophy for Perdana College as they now hold high positions in leading international companies in Bangladesh. The evening ended with dinner and entertainment being provided by Perdana College students.

The visit of Peter T.S. Ng inspired the alumni, students and staff of Perdana College to embrace the rapid advancement in technology and build a bright future for the country and for themselves. A success factor for UCSI University, according to Ng, is its Co-Op program that requires students to undergo two months of industrial placement for every year of study. UCSI University also held a two-day “Open Day” at Perdana College wherein those students who wanted to study in UCSI Malaysia may enrol upon submission of the necessary credentials.
