Celebrating 10 years of Dhaka University Photographic society

DHAKA University Photographic Society (DUPS), one of the pioneer photographic clubs in the country, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. DUPS began its journey on the 29th August 1999 with a view to encouraging the new generation into the art of photography. DUPS aims to nurture those who are passionate about photography. Following its objective “Light Through the Lens” DUPS has made many artisan and master craftsman during the last ten years. At first only DU students were conducting its activities.

DUPS has organised many programmes over the last ten years such as annual photographic exhibitions, weekly outings and photographic contests. The society was the first to initiate 'Basic Photographic Course to students. This programme has now become one of the most popular ones among the interested ones. On 29th August celebrating the successful 10 years DUPS arranged a number of programs. All the members and the students of DUPS met at TSC to observe the day. DUPS inaugurated an exhibition of photos of all the members and students to mark the celebration. Later, the honourable Vice Chancellor A A M S Arefin Siddique joined to launch DUPS's own website. The president of the club announced about the 1st intra university photographic contest from the programme, which is going to be held at the end of this year.

Photography is more than a hobby now. We capture the reflection of life in different angles through photography. People's mindset about photography has changed. Photography has now become more powerful and popular to the younger people. Establishing the DUPS is always organising events that are aimed to bring out the hidden potential of the new generation in the field of photography.
