SENERGY-The Future Energy for Bangladesh

Md.Razib Vhuiyan

INTERNATIONAL organisation Action Aid that established its Bangladesh wing in 1983, is working for anti-poverty all over the Bangladesh. The main theme of Action Aid Bangladesh is to end poverty together and strive towards dignity. Action Aid is working worldwide in a vision to establish a world without poverty and injustice.

In 2009, Action Aid is focusing on climate change and its impact. Action Aid Bangladesh made some contact with several public and private universities in search of two participants for the global youth conference called 'Bright Green Youth' and a hitchhiking programme "Tracing Climate Responsibilities of the Danish People'. Sarah Ahmad and I from IUB were the selected participants from Bangladesh.

In Bright Green Youth, 500 young innovative participants from 45 different countries of the world were engaged in a nice city of Denmark--Sonderborg from 8th August to 11th August 2009 and arranged by the joint venture of MS Action Aid Denmark and Denmark's largest technological company Danfoss Universe. The aim of the conference was to discuss, communicate and share knowledge about climate change as well as generate some innovative ideas for development considering the climate change, environment and leadership. Young participants are divided into 40 groups who worked for some innovative ideas for group 4-B. My project's name was Senergy. I worked to generate electricity from the sound waves. It's a simple idea but effective to eliminate crisis in the energy sector of developing countries like Bangladesh. Any one can do that by using some metal board, sound sensitive membranes, some sort of magnets and batteries. All the groups had to make presentations on their own project in front of other groups, and then the final round began. Only 14 projects were selected by the voting system. Then again all the groups had to give a vote for best four projects. Senergy took place in the top four and is going to be represented in the COP-15 as youth idea in front of the world's leaders. In 11th August the top four projects were presented by the working groups in front of the experts, scientists and of course a lot of media. It was so exciting to give a presentation in front of this special group.

Another project named 'Tracing Climate Responsibilities of the Danish people' was organised by MS Action Aid Denmark. It was a hitchhiking programme and we, the participants enjoyed it very much. We worked there as climate detectives and tried to find out what the Danish people think about climate change, what are their expectations from the COP-15 (UN conference on climate change) in December 2009, do they feel any responsibilities to the climate refugees as responsible for climate change? All the participants of this project had to present their findings in a big festival caller 'Fare Fellaed' and notes and information from the participants will be presented at COP-15 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
