ABC International School Celebrates Graduation of 2nd Batch

THE senior section teachers and the principal of ABC International School in Narayanganj hosted an event at the school campus recently to announce the graduation of their second GCE O level batch. The out-going students, their parents and all the teachers of the school were present on the occasion. Principal Abdul Hai spoke on the occasion. Asif Islam Khan and Ramisa Fariha spoke on behalf of the students. After a series of speeches, all the graduating students were handed over certificates of appreciation by the principal.

 

Mothertongue based education for Tripura children demanded

A discussion titled “Education for Tripura Indigenous Community, ensure Socio-economic development, land rights and representation on local government” was held at the Khagrachhari town hall on 25 September. Refugee Affairs Taskforce Chairman and Lawmaker from Khagrachhari constituency Zatindra Lal Tripura attended the discussion as chief guest while Bangladesh Tripura Students Forum President Joy Prakash Tripura presided over the discussion. Speakers in the discussion said that the Tripura Indigenous community is still deprived from getting their basic rights. No government had taken any special policy to forward the backward Tripura people, or to develop their community. As a result most of the Tripura people are still illiterate, living inhuman life at several parts of Chittagong Hill Tracts. Giving emphasis on mother tongue based education; they urged government to ensure Tripura language education for primary level students. Mohila Kallyan Samity President Shepalika Tripura andJana Sanghaty Samity (JSS) District Committee Secretary Shaktipado Tripura also spoke at the event. Later, Bangladesh Tripura Students Forum (BTSF) awarded 294 Tripura students for their out standing performances in different examinations held last year.

 

Inter-University Research Proposal Writing Competition 2009

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and NCC Bank Limited are jointly organizing an Inter-University Research Proposal Writing Competition for the second time after its immense success in 2008. Any interested university can send any number of “3-member teams” from both the BBA and MBA level. Registration is free, and open till October 1st, 2009. The registration form can be accessed on the web at <www.iub.edu.bd/ ftp/bss_registration_form.pdf> and emailed to zeeshan@iub.edu.bd.

Each participating team is to go through a brief workshop on Research Methodology at the School of Business, IUB. Subsequently, the teams are required to produce a proposal on an open topic or issue concerning the business environment of today. The teams will have the opportunity to present their proposals to a panel of judges in the First Round of the event. Five of those teams will qualify for the Final Round. The first prize is BDT 25,000 in cash. The runner up and second runner up will be awarded BDT 10,000 and BDT 5,000, respectively.

 

Southeast University Closes Distance Education

Southeast University (SEU) has closed down all forms of distance and ICT-based education in compliance with the directives of the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission. The board of Governors of SEU passed a resolution to this effect. The centre for open and virtual learning (COViL) has also been declared closed. Fresh admission in the Regional Resource Centres (RRC) was closed on 23 October 2007 as per the instruction of the UGC. Most of the students admitted before that date have already completed their degree requirements. Those who could not complete all courses due to semester drop or for personal reasons are advised to transfer to the regular programmes offered in the main campus at Banani.


Painting Exhibition at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka

Alliance Francaise de Dhaka will be hosting a solo Painting Exhibition of artist Fahamida Enam Kakoli titled “Kantha Kahani” at it's La Galleries from 1-14 October 2009. The inaugural ceremony of this exhibition was held on 1 October. Eminent Artist Professor Mahmudul Haque, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka inaugurated the exhibition as Chief Guest and critic Moinudden Khaled was present as a Special Guest.

Fahamida Enam Kakoli completed M.F.A. from Institute of Fine Art, DU in 1997. She arranged four solo painting exhibitions and took part in two exhibitions in Bangladesh and South Korea. She participated in more than 40 group exhibitions, 20 art camps and workshops in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Japan, Korea, China, Myanmar and UK. She achieved 5 awards in Bangladesh and UK, and she also achieved a six-month-fellowship award under The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea. Now she is working as a freelance artist.
