Bdnews24.com-National Debate Festival 2009 @ Jahangirnagar University

THE' bdnews24.com National Debate Festival 2009'-was held on October 21-24 at the Jahangirnagar University auditorium & Muktomoncho. The event was organized by the central debate organization of the universityr “Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization”(JUDO) with the slogan-“Easho nipobone….. Juktir Alingone.” More than 500 debaters and students from 61 institutions participated in this grand event.

All the participants gathered at the main venue of the festival on the opening day. In keeping with the age-old tradition, a colorful procession was held on the campus with the participation of the students and teachers from all institutions carrying festoons, placards, posters, baners and wearing masks to celebrate the occasion. The competition got started with the 1st round inter department debate. The 2nd round and quarterfinal debates took place the following day. The next day saw the semi-finals of the inter department, school and college level debates. The tournament concluded with the final debate and the fun debate on 24 October. The General Secretary of JUDO Masum Reza Mehedi announced the results of the competition.

In the category of school level (Bangla), Tauhidur Rahman Turag (Ideal School) grabbed first position, Ahmed Mohaimen Chowdhury (Ideal School) was second and Nazneen Akter (Holy Cross) got the third prize. In the school level (English), Tauhidur Rahman Turag(IDC) was the champion and Tanziba Tahsin from Jahangirnagar School & College was the Runner-Up.

In the college level (Bangla), Farha Zerin Khan (Savar Cant. College) was first, Sadia Sayed Tamanna (Viqarunnisa) was second and Rawnak Mehedi (Res. Model College) got the third prize. In the category of college level (English), Fahim Dadh Khan (Savar Cant. College) emerged the champion, Shahnewaz Kobir Anik (Dhaka Commerce College) was the 1st Runner-up and Tahsif Rahman (Res. Model College) got the 2nd Runner up place.

In the University level (Bangla), Tonmoy Chowdhury (CUET) was first, Kazi Teuny (Brac University) was second and Abdullah-Al-Zunayed (DU) got the third Prize. In university level (English) Kazi Teuny (Brac University) was first, Sundorva Giri (Gono Bisshobiddaloy) was second and Md. Salauddin (Jagonnath) got the third prize.

Hasan Mahmood Biplob, Debashis Ronjan Sarkar, Mamun Chowdhury, Mazharul Islam, Moffazol Hossain Sumon, Mouharram Imam Chowdhury and Muksimul Ahsan were present as the adjudicators of the programme. Omar Faruk Sujon was the convener and Shorifa Shobnom Tania was the press co-coordinator of the grand event.

On the fourth day, the final debate was held between Department of Government & Politics and Department of English. Department of Government & Politics was adjudged the winner and S.M. Rezaul Karim from the same department received the best speaker award.

Vice- chancellor of JU Prof. Shariff Enamul Kabir was the chief guest of the closing ceremony and distributed awards among the winners. Md. Moniruzzan, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Farhad Hossain, Eminent Journalist of Prothom-Alo Anisul Haque, CEO of RTV M. Hamid, and CEO of bdnews24.com Baby Moudud were present as special guests. The concluding ceremony was presided over by the moderator of JUDO Prof. A.T.M. Atiqur Rahman. ATN was the sponsor of the colorful event. RTV, ABC Radio and The Bangladesh Somoy were the media partners of the festival.
