North South University observes World Diabetes Day

NORTH South University (NSU) observed the World Diabetes Day 2009 on the 15 November 2009 at NSU Bashundhara. Although diabetes is a common disease in Bangladesh, it still remains one of leading causes of death around the globe. The day started off with a rally around the campus with the tagline “Understand Diabetes, Take Control”. M. A. Kashem, Chairman of NSU Foundation, Dr. Hafiz G. A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, Dr. SAM Khairul Bashar, Pro VC, Dr. JMA Hannan, Chairman of Department of Pharmacy, faculty members and students took part in the rally. As part of the campaign, students of the Department of Pharmacy carried out free blood glucose and blood grouping tests for all the faculties, students, and staffs of NSU and counseled them in ways to detect and manage diabetes. Eminent scientists of the country also displayed their research posters and gave presentations on the advancements made in diabetes management as well as removing common misconceptions that exist among the masses.

The program was organized by the Department of Pharmacy and NSU Pharma Society (NSUPS). Dr. JMA Hannan, Chairman of the Department thanked everyone for their efforts especially BIRDEM, Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Novo Nordisk for their overwhelming support.
