A Long Walk To Remember

Md. Naibur Rahman

THE anticipation for the expedition of Duke of Edinburgh Award (DEA) programme came to an end on the 5 November 2009. Around 22 participants from DU (mainly from the Dept. of Economics) and BUET prepared themselves for an exciting journey to Comilla.

The journey started exactly at 8 am under the supervision of the award leader. Our destination was Comilla BARD (Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development). This was the focal point where all the tasks were undertaken. After some refreshments, our leader handed us the group task to explore the place. It was fun to prepare a presentation after exploring the place. But the adventurous part was yet to come.

After lunch we started our journey again. In which we were asked to walk an entire length of 14 km. The way from BARD to Shalbon Bihar was smooth but the remaining part of the route was very tiresome as the roads were bumpy. After making a long walk we made our way back to BARD.

The following day, at 6 a.m. in the morning, we started towards “Nilachal Hill”. We walked another 4 km. It was a great chance to bond with nature. After 4 hours we found ourselves at the Comilla bus station.

Though it was a short journey that required a lot of walking it was really a long walk to remember. Thanks to the DEA programme for offering such an opportunity to explore the nature, to explore ourselves.
