Spring orientation at BRACU

The orientation ceremony of the Spring Semester 2010 for the newly enrolled undergraduate students of BRAC University (BU) was held at the BRAC Centre Inn.

Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, addressed the ceremony as Chief Guest. Professor Golam Samdani Fakir, Pro Vice Chancellor, Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar, and Professor Mumit Khan of the university, among others spoke at the function.

Welcoming the newly enrolled students at BU, Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury said the goal of the university is to provide an excellent broad based education with a focus on professional development for students, in order to equip them with the knowledge and skill necessary for leading the country in its quest for development.

Professor Golam Samdani Fakir asked the newly enrolled students to employ their utmost attention and efforts to acquire knowledge to face the challenges of the 21st century.

 

IT week begins on NUB Banani Campus

THE Computer Club of Northern University Bangladesh organized an IT week recently on its Banani Campus. After inaugurating the programme Prof. M. Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of the university said that NUB is committed to building digital Bangladesh through providing quality IT education. Among others, Prof. Md. Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Science & Engineering and Head, Dept. of CSE, Prof. Mir Md. Akramuzzaman, Dean, Faculty of General Education, Engr. Badiuzzaman and Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, North South University along with faculty members of other departments and students were present at the ceremony.


Southern University Day-2010 observed

The Southern University Day-2010 was observed in a befitting manner at Southern University Bangladesh (SUB) campus on 14 January 2010. SUB began its journey as a university in the port city, Chittagong on the same day in 2003 with the approval from Bangladesh Government and UGC. Since then, the University has been providing quality education. In order to mark the day, the University campus was decorated and stalls were set up to provide necessary information to the visitors. SUB Vice-Chancellor Prof. A.J.M. Nuruddin Chowdhury inaugurated the day by cutting a cake. In his inaugural speech, he greeted and welcomed the members of Southern family and urged them to work sincerely in order to keep up the continuous growth of the University. SUB Founder, Sarwar Jahan explained the vision, mission, policies and activities of the University in his speech. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Sharifuzzaman also attended the inaugural ceremony as a welcome speaker. A cultural programme was held at the end of the event.

 

39th Founding Anniversary at JU

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed the JU day, commemorating the 39th founding anniversary of the University on January 12, 2010. The advisor to the Prime Minister on education, politics and social development and former Vice chancellor of JU Dr. Allauddin Ahmed inaugurated the day long programme as the chief guest by hosting national and university flag at old Social Science faculty (Present Zoological Science faculty) premises at around 11 am.

Special guest of the programme, University Grant Commision Chairman Prof. Nazrul Islam and Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Sharif Enamul Kabir declared JU Day by releasing balloons. Later a colorful procession was brought out with festoon, banners and placards to mark the day which paraded the main campus and ended at JU Muktto Moncho. Teachers, students, officials of the campus attended the rally. A discussion and cultural programme was also held at JU Muktto Moncho as a part of the celebration. Deans of all faculties, chairpersons of different Disciplines and hall provost were present in the function.

18th Foundation Day of IUBAT

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) celebrated its 18th Foundation Day on the Uttara campus. The 15-day programme heralded exuberance voicing firm commitment to contribute to higher education.

The colourful festival was inaugurated by Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism G.M. Quader before jubilant students, faculty members, freshmen of spring semester, alumni, officials and staff, representatives of overseas collaborative organizations and a galaxy of guests. The programme was designed to highlight academic excellence, comprehensive display of success achieved and a fresh pledge to deliver standard higher education by way of innovative curricula.

Youth Join Hands for Elimination of Violence Against Women

In a bid to ensure elimination of violence against women, with the assistance of BITA (Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Art); Alliance to End Domestic Violence, Chittagong and Change Makers in Chittagong Division, YPSA (Young Power in Social Action) organized a fifteen- day long ''WE CAN'' campaign with the slogan “Jege uthi ebong sojore boli amrai pari Nari'r biruddhe nirjaton bondho korte”, from 25 November 2009 to 10 December 2009 aiming to stop violence against women and to make the masses aware of the cruelty against women.

Starting on 25 November 2009 with the observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and closing on International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2009, the campaign was indeed an inspiring effort to stop violence against women. The campaign included rally, theatre show, distribution of books, leaflets, posters, stickers etc.
