UODA Annual Art Exhibition 2010

The University Of Development Alternative (UODA) Fine Art Department organized its annual art exhibition 2010. This year 150 students of BFA and MFA programme displayed 250 paintings (art works). This exhibition was inaugurated by Rashed Khan Menon MP (Standing Committee on Education Ministry-Bangladesh Govt.), Prof. Muzib Khan (Founding President of UODA), Muztafuzur Rahman (Dean Arts Faculty), Subir Chowdhury, Shahjahan Ahmed Bikash (Coordinator Arts Faculty), Prof. Alauddin Ahmed (Convener of Exhibition Committee). The faculty also offered to give prizes to top 10 participants. This exhibition will continue till 8th February everyday from 10am to7pm. (Photos by Ranak Martin)

 

Seminar on shrimp cultivation at BAU

Speakers at a seminar titled 'GIS-based Decision Support System for Delineation of the Potential Sites of Shrimp Farming in the Coastal Region of Bangladesh' said that shrimp products play a major role in boosting our economy through export. More than two million people in the coastal zones of Bangladesh are solely dependent on shrimp cultivation.

The seminar was held at the TSC conference hall of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and organized by the Agricultural Engineering Divisional Committee of Institution of Engineers (IEB). BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief guest while Professor M. Burhan Uddin, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology was present as special guest. The inaugural function of the seminar was presided over by Engineer M. Harun-Ur-Rashid, Chairman, and Agricultural Engineering Divisional Committee. Professor Md. Rezaul Karim of the Urban and Rural Planning Discipline of Khulna University and Vice-Chairman, Agricultural Engineering Divisional Committee of IEB presented the keynote paper. Mesbahur Rahman Tutul, Honorary General Secretary, M. Masuduzzaman, Secretary, AED, IEB. Professor Dr. M. Nazrul Islam, Professor Dr. M. Shahidullah Talukder, Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Professor Md. Abdus Salam and Engineer Khalilur Rahman were the discussants, among others at the seminar.


Saraswati Puja celebrated at BU

The Sri Sri Saraswati Puja was observed on the BRAC University (BU) campus recently, seeking special sympathy and mercy from the Deity Devi Saraswati in prayers and devotion.

According to the Hindu mythology, the Sri Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, pays special attentions towards its devotees about knowledge and education.

BRAC University Rural Development Club and BU Cultural Club jointly organized the prayer session for Hindu devotees. Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of BU, visited the puja mandap on the campus. Prof Golam Samdani Fakir, pro VC of BU, among others, attended the occasion. He asked the students to follow the teachings of the Deity of Knowledge in every sphere of life.

 

'Clean Dhaka City 2010'

Students of City School International, Dhaka took part in 'Clean Dhaka City 2010' campaign in Gulshan-2 circle area and Banani. They evoked awareness among the public by participating in a parade and distributing flyers among the Dhaka citizens.

 

 

Help for the cold affected people

The Rotaract Club of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) is working for the cold affected people in different places throughout the country. Recently they organized a short play named Kolahekim, where the Vice Chancellor of MBSTU was the chief guest and treasurer of the university Prof. Monirujjaman was the special guest. Students participated by donating clothes and money for the underprivileged people. Like always, Rotaract Club has again proved that they really work for the needy people. They have collected 50pcs of blankets and also raised Tk.10,000 to distribute among the poor people. It has shown that if we could turn our individual efforts into collective effort a large number of people could be saved from the severeht cold. There are rich people in our country and they have the ability to purchase warm clothes for at least one single family.

 

IUB introduces M.Sc in Natural Resources & Disaster Management

The School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has introduced M.Sc programme on Natural Resources and Disaster Management. In its first batch, this programme is hosting 12 graduate students. Welcoming the newly enrolled students in an orientation session on the 24th January, 2010 at IUB's Baridhara campus, the director of SESM Prof. Haroun Er Rashid promised to fulfill their expectations.

The Director of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Nazrul Islam in his speech said: 'It is high time that we should study environment since at present times environmental hazard is an issue of high concern globally and Bangladesh is one of the affected countries.”

 

Trust bank 5th NDF-BD National Debate Festival'10 from 30-31st January

With the vision of preparing the next generation with value-based knowledge and leadership skills to make each citizen a global player in the new era of globalization National Debate Federation Bangladesh (NDF-BD), is going to organize 5th NDF-BD National Debate Festival'10. As a continuation of the success in organizing three national debate festivals this colorful and ever biggest debate show of the country will be held on 30th & 31st of January, 2010 in Dhaka.

With the grand participation of about 2000 debaters from different Bengali & English medium schools, colleges, madrasas, medical colleges and universities of the country this two-day-long festival will have different segments like Grand Rally, Model Debates of different formats, Public speaking competition, Debate Workshop, Campfire, Gift hamper and Certificate distribution, Multimedia presentation, Meet the personalities, Cultural show etc.

Living in a dilemma-Peace or Violence

The Nepal Student Society (NSS) in Bangladesh organised a cultural programme on 18th January 2010 in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This is the Second Annual Cultural Programme by the Nepal Student Society (NSS). Nepal Student Society is well known for nurturing and bringing up good values and morals to end social violence in Bangladesh. The main theme of the programme was to establish Peace in Nepal and all over the world. Students lighted candles and collected signature of all the peace-seeking individuals and took oath that they will devote themselves to this worthy purpose to save the future generation. The Nepali students also requested the Bangladeshi government to provide them with some basic facilities when they come for higher education in Bangladesh.

The programme was inaugurated by the State Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Captain (Retd.) Mozibur Rahman Fakir MP. Other distinguished guests from Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Private Medical and Dental Association, Rangpur Dental College, Hadis Education Centre and Pvt Ltd etc also graced the occasion with their presence.
