Celebrating Triumph Over Annapurna IV

BUFC has been extremely fortunate to be able to organize an event for North Alpine Club Bangladesh (NACB). NACB, a mountaineering and adventure club, visited BRAC on 3 February, not only to celebrate their successful expedition of Annapurna IV, but also to inspire and motivate the youth of Bangladesh to join them in their quest of conquering the Everest by 2010.

Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC of BRAC University, Musa Ibrahim, Joint Secretary of NACB and a journalist of Daily Star , a student of BRAC U and other NACB members were part of this very important and exciting event.

After an introduction speech by Sanjana Ahmed, Executive of Finance in BUFC and host of the day, Stawb Peter Halder, Director of BUFC, gave the guests an insight on BUFC's function in the university. Then Sheikh Rubaiya Sultana, Advisor of BUFC acknowledged BUFC's work and dedication.

NACB then showed us a video documentary on the Annapurna expedition that took place from 27 May to 30 June 2009. Annapurna is a series of peaks in the Himalayas and NACB reached one of them, namely Annapurna IV, making Bangladeshis proud and setting an example to be followed. Musa and Niaz, a member of NACB and an enthusiast for adventure, discussed their awe-inspiring, adventure experiences and other success stories with us. The VC also shared his take on NACB and their motto.

 

Freshers' Reception held at Southeast University

The Freshers' Reception Programme of Spring Semester-2010 in different schools of Southeast University was held at SEU Seminar Hall recently. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Chairman, NITOL Group, Barrister Amirul Islam, Senior Advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Ehsanul Haque, Managing Director, Prime Bank Ltd., Dr. A. Latif Chowdhury, Professor, Ameritus, Elizabeth State University, USA were the Chief Guests and Dr. Mumtaz A. Khan, General Manager, HR & Administration, Warid Telecom, Selima Ahmad, President, Bangladesh Women's Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Asma Banu, Renowned Social Activists, Engr. M. Shamsuzzaman, Managing Director, Micro Fibre Group were the Special Guests in different programmes.

Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, Renowned Neuclear Scientist & Educationist, President, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the Vice Chancellor of Southeast University chaired the programme. Prof. Dr. M. Meshquat Uddin, Renowned Educationist was the Guest of Honour and Engr. Kh. Shahan Alam, Registrar of SEU and Prof. Syed Masud Hossain, Dean, School of Business Studies, Prof. Dr. R. I. Sharif, Dean, School of Science and Engineering, Prof. Abdul Baten Miah, Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences and Chairmen of all departments, students and guardians were also present in the ceremony.

 


BSVER Annual Scientific Conference at BAU

A speakers at the inaugural function of a two-day 16th Annual Scientific Conference of Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research (BSVER) stressed the need for developing animal agriculture in the country. In the era of globalization livestock sector is facing increasing challenges from different emerging and reemerging Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs). The conference was held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium of the Bangladesh Agricultural University BAU on February 07.

To protect our livestock and poultry resources from devastating TADs, veterinary scientists working in all fields need to come in the same boat in order to prevent and control infectious diseases of livestock and poultry in Bangladesh for the greater national interest.

The inaugural session was attended by Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh as the chief guest while Professor Dr. M.A. Sattar Mandal, BAU Vice-Chancellor was the chief patron at the inaugural session of the scientific conference.

Former BAU Vice-Chancellor and BSVER President Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain chaired the inaugural session while Professor Dr. Nitish Chandra Debnath, Vice-Chancellor, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Awal , Vice-Chancellor, Sylhet Agricultural University and Professor Dr. Md. Motahar Hussain Mondal, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, BAU were present as special guests. FAO Project Manager Dr., Yoni Segal presented a research paper.

Eminent Veterinary Scientist Professor Dr. Md. Mansurul Amin, delivered BSVER Annual Lecture 2009. Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Chairman, Conference Organizing Committee gave address of welcome while Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman gave vote of thanks.

Along with a symposium entitled 'Public Private Partnership Development of Livestock Entrepreneurship in Bangladesh', the conference included Open paper sessions, cultural programme and Business session and distribution of awards.

 

Efficiency Development Workshop

A two-day long workshop on Efficiency Development organized by Physically Challenged Development Foundation (PDF) was held at Jahangirnagar University from February 6-7. Presided over by Bdiuzzaman Bakul, President of PDF, the workshop was attended by Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sharif Anamul Kabir inaugurated the workshop while Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Farhad Hssain, Pofessor Dr.A.T.M. Atikur Rahman, Adviser of PDF, Dr. Shamsur Rahman Medical Officer of JU and Md Mizanur Rahman Kiron, coordinator of PDF. On the first day there were lectures on Bengali pronunciation, English pronunciation, organizational capacity, self-development, and higher education in Bangladesh and abroad. On the last day freshers’ reception, prize giving ceremony and certificate distribution ceremony were held. The day ended with a colourful cultural programme.

 


Bdjobs.com Job Fair

Bdjobs.com is going to organize a job fair titled 'Campus Career Festival' at Chittagong University on February 17 and 18, 2010 as a part of its campus career festival consisting six leading public and private universities. The aims of the programme are to build a bridge between the fresh graduates and employers. Reputable local and multi-national companies will participate at the job fair. 'Face to Face' job interviews will be arranged by participating companies on the 2nd day .The interview sessions will take place at the booths of the respective organizations located at the festival venue. Dr. Abu Yusuf, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University will inaugurate the event.

 


Launching of the Alumni Association of BRAC University

When the chilling winter is finally bidding us a fond farewell and all the majestic hues of spring have started to embellish our mother nature, a knight in shining armor was brought into being an entity which was so long awaited, long anticipated! Four vowels and 3 consonants all jumbled up to form a magical word “AABRACU” (Alumni Association of BRAC University) got its own identity. The knight is none other than the man himself Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG who graced the evening of February 7, 2010 to commemorate the launching ceremony of AABRACU. By cutting a cake with all the executive members of the association Abed Sir and our very own JRC initiated the blazing journey of this association. A host of 900 guests were present at the enchanting evening to boost the morale of the proud graduates of the university. University faculty members, high officials from the corporate world, media representatives and a flock of highly enthusiastic university alumnus shared the joyous moment. The evening commenced with speeches by the chief guest, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed followed by the Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury.

Mr. Shoeb Ahmed, President of AABRACU acquainted everyone with the mission, vision and future road map of this association. AABRACU was established in the year 2006 with the dynamic first batch of BRACU graduates. The underlying philosophy of Alumni Association of BRAC University is to adhere to creating and nurturing competent individuals who can attain excellence in every sphere of life. At the same time promote the interests of BRACU Alumni network, act as a navigator and ensure that the BRAC University graduates stay dynamic and constantly updated in response to the changing needs of the society. The mission of the Alumni Association of BRAC University is to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between the University and its alumni to perpetuate a sense of pride in and commitment to the outstanding qualities of the University and the education it provides, and to promote, in partnership, a positive image of the University and its alumni through communication, service and leadership. Assist to prepare outstanding professionals to serve the communities where they live and work, to assume civic responsibility, and to work to promote harmony and justice within society.

Seminar on “IP Telephone, 3G and WiMAX the Key Technologies for Next Generation Telecommunication Infrastructure” at NSU

The seminar on “IP Telephone, 3G and WiMAX the Key Technologies for Next Generation Telecommunication Infrastructure” was jointly organized by CICT of North South University (NSU), NSA and NSU Wireless Forum on 1 February 2010 at NSU own campus. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP was present as chief guest and M. A. Kashem, Chairman and Mr. Benajir Ahmed, Vice Chairman of NSU Foundation also present as special guests. Dr. Hafiz G. A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor and Dr. SAM Khairul Bashar, Pro Vice Chancellor of NSU were present as guests of honor. Professor Miftahur Rahman, Chairman, Department of EECS, chaired the inaugural session. Dr. M.A. Awal, also spoke on the occasion among others.

Speakers said that, IP Telephone, 3G and WiMAX are the Technologies that helped us to establish a world class telecommunication backbone network and services. We hope that this type of seminar will contribute to this government's current policy on Digital Bangladesh. Speakers also mentioned that, before these technologies came into our country we had the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) which could provide telephone services barely to one person out of one hundred. With the blessings of the six telecom operators our telephone accessibility comes to be forty out of one-hundred and this has happened within the span of a little more that 12 tears.
