For only you Sahim, with love…
Mahjabeen
Dear Sahim,
More than two months have passed since you left us. More than two torturous, lonely months. But feels like these two months didn't even come in our life. Seems like it is still the morning of 30th December 2009, when you were having your breakfast, seems like you didn't choke on the piece of meat and died of concussion, seems like time is frozen there, 30th December 2009... But time did pass by, and we saw 2010 enter our lives with its fresh ray of hope, only that you are not here. Nonetheless the heaviest price was paid by your parents, siblings, family, friends, followers, well-wishers for losing you. However there are many who don't know you, but seeing your friends' and family's love and affection, it seems like they know you for ages. That includes me and countless of other people.
Wish time was frozen there Sahim, and your friends and family had you with them. Your friends miss you calling them “tumi miya sessra!” or calling yourself in that funny Chittagonian tone of yours “Satkainna goru chor” or using the words “jamboora” , “alu bokr” . You were that bridge that connected your classmates to seniors and even juniors. They miss your influence to play musical instruments, to join drama, to play basketball. They miss your instantaneous lame jokes, which made everyone roll on their belly, laughing. They miss you Sahim, they miss calling you “piggy baby”, 'sessra'. You used to call yourself Kal-El II and indeed Sahim, you are the superhero! The superhero that used to work day and night helping someone else finish their senior project; who never used to utter the word 'no' to any requests. Your love for drama made you get the role of Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, but fate had something else in its mind. They miss you rehearsing, singing and dancing the Tin Man song in that funny accent. They miss your love for your band, love for pool, love for your friends and family. They truly miss you, superman…
You know on 12th March 2010, your friends arranged a concert! Surprised? Then don't be! Your concert was the most amazing concert that anybody has ever seen brother! The atmosphere was so serene. All your teachers, friends, well wishers and most importantly your parents were present there! Thinking how your friends organized such a wonderful concert, right? I guess even you don't know how important you are to them superman! All the William Carey Academy (WCA) students, seniors, Shareque bhai, Mazjub bhai, Shanto bhai, Wadud and countless of others' relentless support saw this great concert, named “The Great Gig in the Sky” take place. Access Denied, Radicalz, Sinister, Blunderware, Last child, Hemorrhage, Effigy and your very own GOSH and My 31st Demerit performed! It was all your favorite songs - Heaven, Pothchola, In Loving Memories (Alterbridge), My Sacrifice (Creed), Aushomapto (Aurthohin), and Yesterday (Switchfoot). And the best surprise? Well it was Effigy's “Sahim's Song” that Wadud wrote for you! The lyrics were truly amazing Sahim! Even Sinister, Blunderware and your own My 31st Demerit had a song written for you! And when GOSH was performing, I had this strange feeling that you were there Sahim, wearing your baggy pants, over sized white t-shirt, and that famous hat of yours! Every single person had the feeling that you were there, laughing like anything whenever a mistake was made!
You should have seen your little sister, staring at the stage with utmost attention, chewing a gum! And the tears in everyone's eyes, they were not because of grief, but because of pride. You probably saw how proud your parents were. Maybe you never let them come to your previous concerts because you were shy. But the presence of your parents in the concert seemed like it was deliberated, as if you wanted them to get the respect and love they deserve…had everything planned right? The concert brought back you Sahim, back to all of us. Music is truly everything to get you back, and every single person can proudly say that music weaved its charm…it brought you back…
As you wrote in the literature book 2009 'Forever'…Yes, forever you will be in our heart, in our lives, forever… Adieu Sahim…
(The writer is a 1st year student of Radiant School & College. The concert was organized to pay homage to Sahim Rashid, a student of WCA who passed away on 30th December, 2009)
