City University Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony

Foundation stone laying ceremony of City University's own permanent campus was held on 1 April 2010 to start construction work. The campus is adjacent to Ashulia Model Town and BRAC University, Ashulia, Savar.

“I hope City University will continue to contribute to the development of our nation, and our country. I believe it will become a great university in Bangladesh and in the world”, said the local MP Touhid Zong Murad.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, “It is good that City University is shifting to its own campus. Most of the private universities don't have their own campus.”

“The main campus has been designed by a renowned architect of BUET, featuring modern facilities and amenities. There will be play ground, cafeteria, gymnasium, dormitories for male, female students and teachers”, said Alhaz Mukbol Hossain (former MP), Chairman, Board of Governors, City University. The City University's honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. NRM Borhan Uddin , Co-Chairman Golam Fatema Tahera Khanom, Treasurer Ahsanul Islam, registrar, assistant registrar, Departmental heads, faculty members, officials, invited guests representing media personnel as well as more than 800 hundred students were present in the ceremony.

 

Study Tour and Fresher's Reception of
A I S dept. Comilla University

On 22 March about 85 students went to Cox's Bazar for a study tour. Four teachers of this department as well as students worked hard to make the tour a success. Students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd batch participated in the tour. The students visited Himchori, Inani beach and Bangabandhu Safari Park.

The Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest of the programme. The programme was attended by Asst. Prof Bishawjit Chandra Deb, Chairman of the department. In that orientation programme the Vice-Chancellor promised that he would provide necessary support and materials for the betterment of the department.

 

NSD Science Fair 2010 Held

The Annual Science Fair of New School of Dhaka (NSD) took place on 1 April 2010. The participants were from Class I to Class IX. They conducted a total of 14 projects and experiments, several of which were concerned with the major problems like Natural Disasters. Other experimental approaches such as 'Steam Powered Boat', 'Hot Air Balloon', and 'Launching of Rocket' caught the attention of the viewers.

Engr Mohammed Abdul Malek, Chairman of the school visited the fair as chief guest. Lt Col Mahmud Ul Alam, PhD (retd), Principal of NSD was pleased with the work of the participants. Head of Biology at NSD and Judge of the event, Dr Mustakimur Rahman Khan expressed his satisfaction over the success of the fair.


6th Anniversary of Dept. of Pharmacy, Bangladesh University

The 6th anniversary of the Department of Pharmacy, Bangladesh University was observed on April 3, 2010 at the Auditorium of the University. Prof. S.M. Marfuzur Rahman, a senior faculty of the Department welcomed the guests, other faculties and students for their participation in the celebration. Chief Guest M.A. Malik, Member, Broad of trustees, Bangladesh University wished a better future of the Department in his speech. Special Guest Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Ali Fakir, V.C In-charge congratulated the faculties and the students for the achievement. Md. Ali Hossain, Sr. Manager, HRD, Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd was present in the programme as the guest of honor. The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Chairman, Department of Pharmacy, Bangladesh University.

 


Computer Technology at Green University

A meeting to sign an agreement between Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) & Daffodil Computers Ltd. was held on 7th April in the Seminar room of Green University to introduce Computer Technology in university. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Prof. Anwarullah Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of Green University where the Chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Prof. Nazrul Islam was the chief guest. Mrs. Shahin Mahbuba Haque Vice-Chairman of Board of Governors & Treasurer of GUB signed this agreement on behalf of the GUB & her counterpart was Mr. Monir Hossain, Company Secretary of Daffodil Computers Ltd. Once this agreement is implemented, all the teachers, students, guardians and the authorities will be immensely benefitted. The implementation of Computer Technology in the GUB will ensure quality education, better student management, class routine, examination result, semester plan, attendance, evaluation, promotion and library management. All the activities will be conducted by Computer Technology and thus the transparency and accountability will be ensured. The chief guest Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman UGC said that the Private University Act. was Promulgated in 1992 and it was a epoch-making decision by the Government of Bangladesh. He expressed his satisfaction that the Green University is going to adopt Computer Technology. He opined that the future generation will have to be well conversant with modern technology. The Vice-Chancellor of Green University said that the University is located in a pleasant environment in an independent building. The Chairman of the Board of Governors of GUB Prof. AKM Fazlul Haque said that by virtue of introducing Computer Technology and by implementing other modern facilities gradually, this university will turn into an A-Grade university in the Country. In her thanks giving address Shahin Mahbuba Haque said that with the help of Govt. and UGC, this university will become a model university. The meeting was attended by the Registrar, Dean, all Chairman, teachers and officials of GUB.

 

CSE FIESTA at BUBT

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) of Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT) is going to organize its Annual Mega Program CSE FIESTA for the second time. The major aim of the event is to present the skills of CSE students and highlight their proficiency in ICT to the local and global ICT market. On 19 April, an Inter University Math Olympiad, Inter College Math Olympiad, Gaming Contest (FIFA-09) and Voting For Sundarban will be organised.

On June 10-11 an Inter University Programming Contest will be organised. BUBT believes that as a university its responsibility is to create a competitive and stimulating environment so that students can sharpen their analytical skill. Keeping this point in view BUBT has organised a Math Olympiad for undergraduate level students and HSC/equivalent level students as a part of CSE FIESTA.

BUBT opens a voting line for students and visitors for casting their votes for the Sundarbans to raise the status of this object of natural beauty of Bangladesh to the top of the seven wonders of nature. This will create an enthusiasm among the visitors and students to see their country in a distinguished position.

Green Vale School Annual Day Function

GREEN Vale School organised a colourful event to celebrate their Annual Day Function 2010 at Shilpakala Academy, Chittagong on the evening of March 31, 2010. The programme kicked off with Quran Tilawat followed by welcome speech by the school Principal Ayesha Huda Chowdhury. The students of this Chittagong based school performed dramas, songs, dances, recited poetry, rhymes etc. to celebrate the day. The programme came to an end with a group dance by the students of class IV and V dedicated to the freedom fighters of 1971 War of Liberation of our country.

 

Kelso Ideal Academy observes Independence Day

KELSON Ideal Academy organised a function to observe Independence Day and annual sports ceremony at Mirpur DiaBari on 26th March 2010.

The programme was presided over by Director of the academy Md.Mokleshur Rahman and Chief Guest of the programme was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali, School of Business and Economics, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology.

Among others, headmaster of the academy Md. Ahsan-ul-Kabir, Director Md. Ruhul Amin and Director Md. Salim Ullah and Sujit Chandra Das also spoke on the occasion. Mahinur Akter of the academy, an outstanding student, received Participant of Language Movement and Litterateur Prof. Mobasher Ali award-2009.

 

Adam's Garden International School Science Fair

NEVER stops questioning. With these words of Einstein, students of Adam's Garden International School were encouraged to ask their visitors questions regarding their interesting science projects. Bhasasoinik (A language movement veteran) Abdul Motin inaugurated the 4th Annual Science and Education fair on 3 April in Adam's Garden premises.

Since the slogan was 'Go Green, Have Green and Be Evergreen', all science projects were related to daily life and environmentally friendly. Parents and visitors from other schools made it very interactive and enjoyable. All the visitors were highly contented and they encouraged the students to go ahead and be more creative.
