Scholastica stages Annual Drama Ha Ja Ba Ra La

Prioty Ferheen Sarwar

A two-month effort of Scholastican students and faculty members blossomed on the 8th and 9th of April in the form of a wonderful performance of the famous Bengali playwright Shukumar Rai's “Ha Ja Ba Ra La”. The audience at S.T.M. hall were enthralled by the kids who had blurred the lines of reality and fantasy and taken them to a dreamland. With the dismay of torn sleeves and broken chains and forgotten lines overcome by some miracle, the performers were ready, nervous teachers giving them encouragement as they took positions backstage. The moment had come when all their hard work and sweat would bear fruit.

And it did; wonderful and sweet.
With superbly portrayed characters we followed the adventures of 'Balok' and his inquisitive mind and habit of falling into the hands of comical and slightly insane characters of his dream world. Antics of characters such as the 'Hijibijbij' , 'Udho and Budho' had the audience in peals of laughter while the sly natures of “Sheyal” and “Kumir” had them on the edge.

The dancers in green had enchanted, resembling garden pixies, with fluid movements and amazing coordination. While the backdrop to their choreographies, voices strong and melodic and instruments in faultless rhythm complemented them perfectly.

An evening well spent ended with the speech of Deputy Managing Director of Ascent group Ms. Madiha Murshed. She congratulated the performers with hearty applause of the audience and the contented feeling of a job well done.
