BU Freshers Orientation

BANGLADESH University has organised an orientation for its summer 2010 freshers on June 29 at its Mohammadpur Campus.
Prof. Dr. M. R. Khan, National Professor was present as chief guest while M. Shamsul Huda, Adviser, ATN Bangla was present as special guest. Prof. Dr. Golam Ali Fakir, Vice-Chancellor in-charge Bangladesh University chaired the programme.
Professor Mustafa Kamaluddin welcomed the students and guests. The Vice-Chancellor in-charge Prof. Dr. Golam Ali Fakir advised the students to have personal initiative and to take advantage of all the modern scientific facilities offered by Bangladesh University. The members, board of trustees of Bangladesh University Quazi Mozaher Ali, Treasurer of BU Mr. Mohammad Faizullah, Controller of examinations Mr. N.G.Paul, Head, Dept. of Pharmacy Dr. Kohinur Begum, Head, Deptt. of Business Administration Prof. Tofail Ahmed and Head, Deptt. of Architecture Mr. Sardar Masud Karim spoke on the occasion among others. A large number of faculty members and students were present in the programme. The BU registrar Abu Hanif Khan, assistant registrar Shohel Ahsan Nipu and Alauddin Ahmed were also present.
This semester around five hundred students enrolled in BU and took part in the orientation programme.

Certificate course in GIS held at JU

Amonth long certificate course on Geographic Information System (GIS) concluded at Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised by Department of Geography and Environment on 30 June. Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir distributed the certificate among the participants in the course as Chief Guest. Prof Sajed Ashraf Karim Coordinator of the course and Dean of Faculty of Social Science was also present.
A total of 21 officers and graduates from different institutions and agencies participated in the course.
Among others Pro Vice Chancellors of JU Prof Dr Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Prof Dr Mohammad Farhad Hossain, Treasurer Prof Nasir Uddin and Chairman of the Department Prof. Samsul Alam addressed the function.

Film Festival at IIUC

THE cultural wing of the Business Club of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), Dhaka Campus, organised a film festival on 23-24 June, 2010. Titled 'Film for Humanity', the festival was inaugurated by the Trust Secretary of the university, Mohammad Shamsul Islam as chief guest, and attended by faculty members and students of the Business department. Also present in the session was the club president Prof. Dr. Md. Jahirul Hoque. The encouraging speeches of the respective dignitaries emphasised how films carry a wealth of information and ideas for awareness in today's technological world, and how it can transform entertainment into infotainment for both student and societal life. The two-day festival showcased award-winning films by renowned directors from across the globe. At the end of each show, short quiz was arranged for the audience.

“How Ethical Crises Affects Financial Crises”

A Seminar on “How Ethical Crises Affects Financial Crises” was held on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the East Delta University Campus, Agrabad, Chittagong. The EDU International Advisor Prof. Dr. Habibul Haque Khondker, Head of the Department of Social and Behavioral Science, Zayed University, UAE, presented the keynote paper.
The Chair of the seminar, EDU VC Prof. Md. Sekandar Khan in his address, referred to “Social Business”, the new concept of business initiated from Bangladesh by Prof. Mohammad Yunus. The Coordinator and Registrar-in-Charge Prof. A. Qaiyum Chowdhury moderated the Seminar.
EDU Faculties Prof. Dr. Abul Hossain, Dr. Tahlil Azim, Dr. Nurul Absar Nahid, Mr. Moslehuddin Khaled, Mr. Raihunul Harun, Mr. Shubhabrata Saha, Ms. Tabassum Chowdhury, EDU students Arafat Hossain and Shaad Hossain took part in the discussion. Sr. Director Mr. Sajal Kanti Barua, PR Officer Mr. Romel Raihan and all the students were present in the seminar.

22nd National Debate Competition at Notre Dame College

NOTRE Dame Debating Club is going to organise the 22nd National Debate Competition starting from 14 July. The Competition will have four categories, Inter-Club Bengali, Inter-Club English, Inter-School Bengali and Wall Magazine competition. The theme of this competition is "Global Order". The Bengali debates will be held in the 3x3 Parliamentary Format. Only the quarter final round will be held in the traditional Format-T. On the other hand English debates will be held in WUDC Format. Interested teams are advised to register as soon as possible. No institution will be allowed to register more than two teams. The institutions can participate in the "Wall Magazine Contest". The theme of the wall magazines will be same as the theme of the programme. Each team has to be comprised of five members.

Debate Competition organised by Manush

“Manush”-A voluntary blood donation organisation is going to arrange an inter-school debate competition on 15-16 July 2010. About 40 schools will participate in this competition. The theme of this competition is “It is the time for logical talking, here is the time” (Juktiboler Uchcharoner Ei To Shomoy, Akhone Somoy). The venue is Northern College Bangladesh, Asadgate, Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

Textile Talent Hunt

Bangladesh Textile Today, the first ever international standard publication on Textile Garment sector is delighted to present the country's first talent hunting and grooming programme for the textile-garment undergraduate students named Textile Talent Hunt (TTH). The programme is organised in association with Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, The Textile Institute, Manchester, UK and College of Textile Technology.
The event is also campus related and students from almost 18 campuses are participating in the Textile Talent Hunt. Star Campus will be the media partner for this programme. The programme will start from 10 July.

Inter University Photography Competition and Exhibition

THE Photography Club of North South University arranged an International photography programme titled “International Inter University Photography Competition and Exhibition 2010”.
This year, 20 countries have participated with around 70 universities, including 170 photographers and over 400 photographs. The exhibition started on 4 June at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha, and Drik Gallery, Dhanmondi and continued till July 10. Jhangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister to The LGRD and Cooperatives ministry formally inaugurated the exhibition and distributed prizes among winners.
A press conference was held at Dhaka Reporters Unity and the Vice Chancellor of North South University Professor Dr. Hafiz G A Siddiqi exchanged information with Journalists and urged support of the scholars for their creative co-curricula activities. Shahriar Iqbal Raj, faculty adviser to the photography club, Belal Ahmed, Deputy Director, PR, NSU and Wajda Akter, President of Photography Club were also present in the press conference.

International Seminar Organised by SAILS and Stamford University Bangladesh

AN international seminar was jointly organised on June 24 by South Asian Institute of Legal Studies and Human Rights (SALIS) and Stamford University Bangladesh, at block C, Dhanmondi campus Stamford University. Prof. Yubaraj Sangroula delivered his welcome speech in the beginning of the seminar. ADR, Company Law, International Law and Trail Advocacy were discussed in the seminar. Prof. Frank S. Bloch of the Vanderbilt University, USA; Prof. Clark D. Cunningham of Georgia State University, USA; Jane E. Schukoske of University of Baltimore, USA; Prof. David Mason of the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa: Prof N. R. Madhava Menon and Prof. V. Nagaraj, India; Prof. Yubaraj Sanagroula, Nepal; Dr. Deepika Udagama, Srilanka participated in the discussion. From Bangladesh, Dr. Kamal Hossain, Prof. M. Shah Alam, Prof. Mizanur Rahman, Prof. Zakir Hossain and Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan also took part in the discussion. Prof. Dr. Md. Badaruddin, Chairman Dept. of Law, Stamford University greeted everyone and expressed his gratitude. Renowned lawyers of the country, teachers from the Dept. of Law, Stamford University and the future lawyers and law students were present on the occasion.

DIU 2nd Business Festival concluds

DIU 2nd Business Festival-2010 was held from 1-3 July at Daffodil International University auditorium. It was jointly organised by Daffodil International University Business & Education Club (DIUBEC) and Career Development Center (CDC).

The three-day Business Festival included young entrepreneurs fair, business case competition, quiz competition, meet the leaders (Topic: Career Plan), workshop on “E”, seminar on “ Development of Capital Market in Bangladesh” essay competition, business drama conducted by DIUBEC, business movies for students, opening and closing and the award giving ceremony.

“Meet the Leaders” session was arranged where Dr. Ahmed Al Kabir, Chairman, Rupali Bank Ltd. was present as the Chief Guest. Presided over by Professor M. Shahjahan Mina, Advisor, Faculty of Business and Economics and moderated by Mostafizur Rahaman, Business Development Manager in Australian Trade Commission, the function was also addressed among others by Professor Salauddin Ahmed Khan, Former CEO, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Former Chairman, NBR, Mohammad Lakiot Ullah and M. Hamid, a renowned cultural personality.

Prof. Dr. Khondoker Bazlul Haque, Chairman Rupali Bank Ltd. was present in the closing and award giving ceremony as the chief guest while Md. Motiur Rahman, Managing Director, Jamuna Bank Ltd. as the special guest. Presided over by Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University, the function was also addressed among others by Professor Rafuqil Islam, Prof. M. Shahjahan Mina, Advisor, Faculty of Business and Economics and Mr. Mahbub Parvez,Convenor, DIU 2nd Business Festival-2010.
