HANS exhibition

To introduce people to the term AUTISM and the latent talents of special (autistic) children, HANS (a not-for-profit students' organisation), in alliance with Surf Excel, organised a 7-day art exhibition in DRIK Gallery, Dhanmondi, Dhaka under the title 'EMERGED FROM UNKNOWN II'. More than 60 paintings of special children from various special schools were exhibited from 16 July to 22 July every day from 03:00 pm 08:00 pm.

In Bangladesh, there is a common perception among the general people that autistic people are disabled, incompetent and incapable. Through this event HANS wanted to provide the general people with the right information about autism and autistic children. In the exhibition, all paintings were put on sale and the earnings will go directly to the painters. This will give a social recognition to the autistic children as artists.

The inaugural ceremony was held on 16 July at 04:30 pm and the exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Abul Barq Alvi, Department of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. In the inaugural ceremony Prof. Alvi said, “This is a good initiative taken by HANS for the autistic children. No doubt these children are very talented and some of them can become renowned painters in future.”

Chairman of HANS Meer Sohrabul Hossain said that the objective of this programme is to showcase the talents of these autistic children. He highly praised the quality of the pictures painted by the children.
