Film Show Day at Daffodil International University

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Daffodil International University organised a Film Show titled 'Freedom's Spirit in Frame' celebrating the 39th anniversary of the country's independence. Liberation War related three short films named 'JoyJatra', 'Muktir Gaan' and 'Stop Genocide' were shown in the Film Show.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr. Aminul Islam inaugurated the Film Show as chief guest. Presided over by Prof. Dr. Shakhawat Ali Khan, Adviser, Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication the function was also addressed among others by Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Shusil Kumar Das, Dean, FHSS, Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Dean FBE, and Syed Mizanur Rahman, Coordinator, CDC of DIU. The function was conducted by Muhammed Rashedul Hasan, Lecturer, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.


World AIDS Day

The School of Public Health and the Center for Health, Population and Development (CHPD) of Independent University, Bangladesh observed World AIDS Day through a seminar held at the university's campus in Dhaka on December 14,2010.

Professor Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, Professor M Omar Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Tanvir A. Khan, Registrar, Dr. Shoaib Ahmed, Treasurer and other faculty members and students of IUB attended the seminar. Professor Dr. Gulshan Ara, Vice Principal and Professor of Pharmacology, Medical College for Woman and Hospital and Professor Falahu Zaman Khan, Head, Department of Community Medicine, Bangladesh Medical College also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Professor, Head, Department of Epidemiology, National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine presented on HIV/AIDS providing detailed information on precaution and prevention of the disease.

The seminar ended with a short documentary film followed by a drama performed by the students of IUB.


Talk on Recent Financial and Economic Crisis in the United States

The School of Business of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) hosted a talk on 'The Recent Financial and Economic Crisis in the United States' by Dr. Vasant A. Sukhatme, Edward J. Noble Professor of Economics, Macalester College, USA at its auditorium on December 14,2010.

Dr. Sukhatme questioned whether the Dodd Frank legislation act of July 2010 has been able to decrease the financial crisis. He also added that countries like India, China and Bangladesh have not been deeply affected by the crisis. "Although many claimed that the crisis heralded the end of global capitalism, Dr. Sukhatme claimed that no such thing would happen."

The hour-long talk was attended by ULAB faculty and students, guests from different organisations of the country and faculty of other universities. A question-and-answer session followed the talk.


Celebrating Victory Day in MBSTU

The students of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) celebrated the victory day with great festivity on December 15 and 16. The students and teachers of MBSTU tried to focus on the overall history of our Liberation War through the programmes. On December 15, a photo exhibition was held organised by the teachers. The most important segment of this celebration was a discussion programme, where Panna Kaiser (Shahidullah Kaiser's wife) spoke about her experiences during the war. In addition, the students of CSE also arranged an exhibition titled 'Chetona', which was inaugurated by Panna Kaiser.


BID International Awarded

BID International awarded Mohammed Firoz Mokul the International Quality Crown Award (IQCA) at Hotel Guoman Tower of London on November 29,2010. Firoze Mokul is an Educationist, Researcher and Principal of FM method. The award was presented to him by Mr. Miller. B.I.D. is a private organisation in the world presenting a Quality Award on the basis of principles as solid as those of the Deming in Japan (only for Japanese companies), the Baldrige in the U.S. (only for U.S. companies), or the EFQM in Europe (only for European companies).
