Vice-Chancellor of Northern University Bangladesh
Meets New Chairman of UGC

Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) met Professor A K Azad Chowdhury, new Chairman of University Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC). M Abu Bakar Siddique, Treasurer, Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Registrar, Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Professor Dr Sadruddin Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Aqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui, Additional Registrar and Proctor in Charge, M Saiful Alam Munir, Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs Division and Abdul Matin, Senior Assistant Registrar of NUB were also present at the occasion.


Seminar on Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

A seminar on “Pharmaceutical Manufacturing”, organised by the Department of Pharmacy of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) was held at SUB Seminar hall of the main campus on April 30. Akhil Dutta, General Manager, Plant, Techno Drugs Ltd was the speaker at the seminar. Md Saiful Islam Pathan, Controller of the Examinations (In-Charge) and Head of academic affairs, SUB welcomed the guests, teachers, officers and students present at the seminar.


Workshop on Career Development at BUET

The Association of Industrial and Production Engineers (AIPE), BUET arranged a “Thoughtshop” on career planning by the title, “Do You Really Have What It takes To Be A Future Leader?” It was held on April 27, 2011 at the Civil Seminar room. The session on career planning was carried out by Quazi M Ahmed , Consultant & CEO of Future Leaders. He was accompanied by Ejazur Rahman, The Managing Director of Mind Mapper Ltd and the Chief Executive Officer of ISCEA-Bangladesh. The session was inaugurated by Dr A K M Masud, Head of IPE Department, BUET.

The programme was attended by more than 200 enthusiastic students. The one hour presentation by Quazi M Ahmed was full of Tips & Tricks, Do's and Don'ts and interesting real life examples related to the topic. He illustrated the method of career selection through an innovative layout and inspiring facts and demonstrated the importance of self-confidence and determination in achieving success in life. He encouraged the participants to do what they love and at the same time love what they do.

Ejazur Rahman discussed about the situations one may face and the motivations one must have to enter into today's corporate world. He urged the students to incorporate three elements in their life which are Learning, Unlearning and Relearning. As a token of appreciation, Sudipa Sarker, faculty member of the Department of IPE handed over mementos to the distinguished guests.


The Singer and His Song: Tagore's 150th
Birth Anniversary Celebrated at IUB

Independent University, Bangladesh observed the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore through a book discussion and musical rendition by Dr Reba Som, Director of Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Kolkata and Professor Malashri Lal, Department of English, University of Delhi, at the Multipurpose Hall of the campus on May 2, 2011. The discussion was on Dr Som's newly published book titled 'The Singer and His Song'.

In her discussion, Dr Som gave elaborate descriptions of various songs of Tagore and emphasised the importance of understanding the Bangla psyche to appreciate Tagore's literature, better. She also read a few extracts from her own book and sang a few lines of Tagore.

The Vice Chancellor (In Charge), Professor M Omar Rahman, delivered the introductory speech while Towhid Samad thanked the author for coming to IUB in his welcome speech. The discussion was followed by a question and answer session and screening of a documentary on the Story of Gitanjali.


Jahangirnagar University Debating
Society (JUDS) Received the Presidential Award

Established in 1997, Jahangirnagar University Debating Society (JUDS) achieved presidential award in the 3rd Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) award giving ceremony on May 6, 2011 at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB). Rasheda K Chowdhury, former advisor of caretaker government was the chief guest at the ceremony. JUDS achieved this prestigious award for high-quality debate in the years 2009 and 2010. Sharmind Nilormi, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Jahangirnagar University also received the life time membership award for her contribution to the debating club.


BRACU MS Biotechnology Students Visit BRAC Dairy

A group of students of the MS Biotechnology programme administered by BRAC University's MNS Department visited BRAC Dairy at Gazipur on March 14, 2011. The twenty-eight member group included both students and faculty members. The group was led by Professor Naiyyum Choudhury, Coordinator of Biotechnology and Microbiology programmes.

During the visit, officials of BRAC Dairy briefed the group about production process and the raw milk supply at BRAC Dairy. After splitting the group into two, the officials took them to different laboratories, including the butter packaging room, quality assurance laboratory. The visit ended with refreshment from the BRAC dairy officials.
