IUBAT Establishes Specialised Lab

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has established a separate Laboratory for the students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor, IUBAT, inaugurated the lab in the presence of faculty members and students, naming it the 'Temple of learning'.

Alamgir Bhuiya, System Administrator, CETC, Utpal Kanti Das, Coordinator, Computer Science and Engineering, Engineer Mofizur Rahman, Head of Construction were also present at the occasion.


Training on Koha at BRAC University

A five day training on Koha, a free and open source software, was organised by BRAC University's Ayesha Abed Library from May 8-12, 2011.

The training programme was conducted by Dr Mumit Khan, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department and the library team of BRACU. The training, which was designed for the Integrated Library System (ILS) implementation team of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) was followed by a practical session, where participants received hands on training on the installation, configuration and customisation of Koha.

In the closing session, Professor Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University, distributed certificates among participants. Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar of BRAC University were also present at the closing session.


Meet the Writer: Lijia Zhang

On August 8, 2011, Department of English and Humanities, BRAC University organised a discussion on the book, "Socialism is Great!": From Rocket Factory Girl to International Media by Lijia Zhang.

Lijia Zhang is a factory-worker turned writer, journalist, social commentator and TV host based in Beijing. Her articles have appeared in renowned international publications. She is a recipient of the prestigious International Writers' Programme at University of Iowa, USA in 2009. She is a regular speaker on BBC, Channel 4, CNN and National Public Radio in America.

The discussion included Zhang's personal experience of change in China over the past three decades as a worker in a Nanjing factory and her thoughts on China's position in the world.

Students and faculty members of BRAC University participated in a lively question and answer session with the writer, where she shared how China transformed from a Socialist country to a Democratic one.


"Higher Education & Career Opportunity": an open seminar in MBSTU

Students of the Department of Criminology and Police Science (CPS), Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), organised an open seminar on July 30, 2011, discussing higher education and career opportunities at home and abroad.

At the seminar, PSC member Professor Imran Kabir was present as the special guest, along with the Vice Chancellor (VC) of MBSTU, Professor Dr M Nurul Islam, Pro VC Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman and the Proctor, Md Omar Faruk.


NUB celebrates the inauguration of its permanent campus

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) celebrated the inauguration of its permanent campus on August 13, 2011 at Gazipur. Nurul Islam Nahid, Minister, Ministry of Education was the chief guest at the programme. Professor Dr A Y M Abudullah, Chairman, International Business Agricultural and Technology Trust (IBAT), Board of Trustees of Northern University Bangladesh inaugurated the programme, while Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of NUB chaired the ceremony.


Seminar organised by BIFT

A one day seminar was recently organised by BGMEA Institute of Fashion & Technology (BIFT), as part of UNIDO implemented Better Work in Textiles & Garments Programme (BWTG), under Better and Standard (BEST) Programme, funded by EU & NORAD, emphasising on improving quality of the clothing industry

Professor Dr Marie-Louise Klotz, President, Rhine Wall University of Applied Science, Germany was the keynote speaker at the seminar. She stressed the importance of improving quality technique in clothing industries in Bangladesh, and also mentioned that introduction of product standardisation system during all manufacturing processes is important in improving efficiency and productivity. The seminar was organised by Munira Raman, a representative from UNIDO.

The seminar was followed by a certificate awarding ceremony. Professor Rudolf Haug, Dean, Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology, Niederrhein University, Germany and Colonel Md Mosharrof Hossain (Retd), Principal, BIFT distributed the certificates among the participants.
