Appreciating Geniuses

Maleeha Mazen Khan

Solving mathematical problems within three minutes and that too seventy of them, and getting all of them right; sounds unbelievable right? Humaira Hani, a seventh grader from Udayan School proved that it is possible. And behind her possibility was the organisation, ALOHA.

ALOHA Bangladesh is the first concern to bring the internationally recognised ALOHA Mental Arithmetic programme from Malaysia to Bangladesh for the development of children aged between 6 to 14. ALOHA Mental Arithmetic Bangladesh is one of the projects of Unicom Education Consultant Services Limited. Essentially, the ALOHA programmes are nothing but scientific brain management techniques that unveil the infinite potential of the human brain and its effective use. ALOHA has more than 5 million children in the network of 25 countries across the world including USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Middle East and countries in Asia. On September 9, ALOHA held a reception programme and the launching of 'ALOHA Junior' at the city's ICMA Ruhul Quddus Auditorium, ICMA Bhaban Nilkhet Dhaka. At the event were present, Loh Mun Sung, the founder of ALOHA as special guest, Saiful Karim, Chairman of ALOHA Bangladesh, Managing Director, Ali Haider Chowdhury and Director Shamsuddin Tipu.

“Today, ALOHA Bangladesh has stepped onto its 6th year. In these six years, ALOHA Bangladesh has established a total of 18 centres all around the country at various locations and now, we are proud to say that we have a total of almost six thousand students who are taking this unique mental arithmetical course at these centres, whereas when we started this inimitable programme we had only 17 students in Dhaka,” expressed Ali Haider Chowdhury. Loh Mun Sung shared his optimism for our talented kids, and also said that he would like to see children from our country participating in every international competition and win the titles as they did this time at the Malaysian competition. At the reception, ALOHA Bangladesh recognised the students who participated in the International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition 2011, held on April 30, 2011 in Kuala LUmpur, Malaysia for achieving excellent results for our country and awarded each of them with uttariya for their accomplishment. In addition, ALOHA Bangladesh launched its new programme, ALOHA Junior for the children aged between 5 to 7. The programme was followed by a live demonstration and individual performance by the ALOHA students.

The students may have achieved the awards by their own will, hard work, intelligence, and performance. And achieving these awards in a foreign country means taking Bangladesh a step forward.
