State University of Bangladesh observes World Food Day

Food Science, Technology and Nutrition Department of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) observed World Food Day at its main campus on October 16, 2011.

The programme included a seminar on “Food Adulteration in Bangladesh: An emerging challenge for our Health and Environment.”

Professor Dr Ahmed Ismail Mustafa, Chairman, BCSIR was present as chief guest, while Professor Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of SUB chaired the seminar. Dr Saleh Ahmed, post harvest and quality assurance expert was present as key note speaker. The welcome speech was given by Professor Dr S F Rubbi, Head, Food Science, Technology and Nutrition Department of SUB.


Seminar at Presidency University

On October 4, 2011, a seminar titled “Degree Plan and Grading Process” was held at the Aman Conference Hall of Presidency University. Shibli Ahmed Khan, Head of the English Department, conducted the seminar. Over 50 students and members of the English Department participated in the seminar. At the seminar, Shibli Ahmed Khan explained several aspects of an undergraduate degree programme including course selection, declaration of a major, planning higher studies and the relative grading system.


ULAB launches Campus Radio

With the tagline “Be the Buzz!”, “Radio CampBuZz” the campus radio of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) started its journey on October 16. Along with faculty advisor Imtiaz A Chowdhury, the radio is run by a bunch of students of ULAB who play the roles of General Manager, Programme Manager, Research and Development team, Reporters and RJs.

Currently running four days a week, the programmes contain news, magazine shows which include songs, recitations, movie reviews, music charts, lifestyle, interviews, and updates of on-campus activities.


Newly elected BAU Ladies Club Executives

Farida Jahan Hoque and Professor Dr Kazi Shahanara Ahmed were elected president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Ladies Club executive body respectively. The election was held on October 17 at the club premises.

Other elected office bearers of BAU Ladies Club are, Vice-President Professor Rafiqun Nessa Ali, Joint-Secretary, Shokina Akhter Lovely, Sports Secretary, Shahanara Choudhury, Cultural Secretary, Afruza Rahim Reni, Social Welfare Secretary, Lipi Sultana.


Seminar at BRAC University

BRAC University Rural Development club organised a seminar on the issue, “Rural Development and Bangladesh Economy” on October 18, 2011. The chief guest was Executive Director of BRAC, Dr Mahabub Hossin. He delivered his speech on the survey, “Transformation of Rural in Bangladesh 1988-2008: Insights from longitudinal surveys”. Later, special guest, Dr Akbar Ali khan talked about the poverty in rural area.

The programme was conducted by Mamun Rashid, from the BRAC Business School, who explored the ratio of the poverty and the problems in rural area. Finally, the seminar ended with the speech of Professor Mirza Azizul Islam who pointed out the challenges of poverty.


Seminar at DIU

A seminar on “Software Testing and its job prospects in Bangladesh and International Market” was held on October 18, 2011 at the auditorium jointly organised by the Department of Software Engineering, Daffodil International University (DIU) and Bangladesh Software Testing Board (BSTB). International Software Testing Quality Board (ISTQB) Certified Testing Engineer Md Akterul Alam Shuvro presented the keynote paper in the seminar.

Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, DIU, was present at the seminar as chief guest, while Muhammad Nuruzzaman, General Secretary, Bangladesh Software Testing Board was present as special guest. Presided over by Professor Dr Md Ismail Jobiullah, Head, Department of Software Engineering, the seminar was also addressed by Md Alauddin Al Azad, Manager Operations, Jobsbd.com.

 


Seminar at NUB

The Department of Development and Governance Studies (DDGS), Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a seminar on “Process of Free and Fair Elections in Bangladesh” on October 15, 2011 with the cooperation of Centre for Governance Studies (CGS). The paper was presented by Dr A T M Shamsul Huda, Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. Azizur Rahman, Former Additional Secretary and Executive Director, CGS, Dhaka was the discussant at the seminar. Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice Chancellor, NUB was the Chairman of the Seminar and Professor Dr A Y M Abdullah, Chairman, IBAT Trust, Founding Body of NUB was special guest.

Among others, Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan, Dean, Faculty of Business, Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering were also present at the seminar.


US Artists perform Jazz at IUB

The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted an Open Air Jazz Performance by Paul Beaudry & Pathways from USA at the amphitheatre on campus in Bashundhara on the October 22, 2011. The event was organised by the US Embassy, Dhaka. The band performed many of their own compositions and several other renowned American Jazz numbers. The director of the American Center, Lauren Lovelace, in her speech thanked the Vice Chancellor (In-Charge), Professor M Omar Rahman of IUB and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Towhid Samad.
