English Literary Club Film Festival at DIU

English literary Club (ELC) of Daffodil International University arranged its second weekend film festival on October 18-20, 2011 in DIU auditorium. The Head of English Department Dr Binoy Barman presided over the meeting and well known documentary film maker Yasmine Kabir was the chief guest. The main attractions of the show were Yasmin Kabir's award winning documentaries - 'My Migrant Soul (2000)' 'A Certain Liberation (2003)', 'The Last Rites (2008)'.After every Documentary Yasmine Kabir made open discussion or question-answer session with the students and audience.

Students and Faculty members were present in big number. The staff and students were impressed very much by the films screened in the festival. More then 150 students participated in the show.

The programme was concluded by special honour crest to Yasmine Kabir through former Dean of Humanities and Social Science Faculty Professor Dr Shusil Kumar Das and the vote of thanks by the ELC Moderator Umme Kulsum. This programme was successfully arranged by ELC members Syed Raihan, Eiten Haque, Irin Nippu, Sunjida Iffat, Sameer Shuvro, Masud Mithu, Rafat.

The response of the students and faculty members were inspiring for the club to do screening of meaningful films and documentaries in future.


Milad Mehfil for Midhat Sarima Rahman

The first death anniversary of Midhat Sarima Rahman, a student of BBA 7th batch at EDU was observed by East Delta University in its campus on October 20, 2011. To observe the anniversary a day long Quran Khatam, Condolence Meeting and Milad Mehfil were arranged.


Workshop titled “Development of Course Curricula of GED Courses” for Teachers

Center for General Education (CGED), Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a Workshop titled “Development of Course Curricula of GED Courses” for the teachers on October 22, 2011 at Banani Campus. Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, was the chief guest in the programme.

Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering and Professor Dr Mahmudul Alam, Director, Center for Management and Development Research (CMDR) spoke as special guests while Dr Kazi Shahdat Kabir, Head, Department of Governance Study, NUB and Coordinator, CGED conducted the workshop.

Professor Dr Shamsul Haque emphasised on building social awareness among the students. The teachers of GED can play an important role. Chief guest called upon the teachers to discuss on basic and important current issue with clarification to the students.


Seminar on “Impact of Climate Change and our Responsibilities”

Law and Justice Department of Southeast University and Do Green (a non profit voluntary organisation) jointly organised a Seminar on “Impact of Climate Change and our Responsibilities” on October 18, 2011 in the Seminar Hall of the University. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Chief Executive, Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) was present as the chief guest. Mohammad Maruf Firoz, President of Do Green was the Key Note Speaker while Professor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice-Chancellor (acting) of Southeast University was the Chair of the programme. Md Asaduzzaman, Chairman, Department of Law & Justice was present at the seminar.

Md Abdul Baten Miah, Dean (acting), School of Arts & Social Sciences, Professor AZM Anisur Rahman, Dean, School of Business Studies, Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Chairman, Department of Textile Engineering, Dr Helal Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Business Administration were also present at the programme.


"Architecture" Awards

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) awarded prizes to the winners of the ULAB Student Photo Contest in the ULAB Auditorium of its own campus in Dhanmondi on November 3, 2011. The chief guest and special judge of the contest was renowned photojournalist GMB Akash.

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh hosted the ULAB Student Photo Exhibition "Architecture" to showcase current ULAB student's photographic talent as well as to encourage new photographers to explore their creative initiatives.


Global Microcredit Summit

DR Mujibur Rahman Khan, Faculty, College of Agricultural Sciences, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) attended the Global Microcredit Summit 2011 on November 14-17 in Valladolid, Spain. The summit was inaugurated by Queen Sofia of Spain and Nobel Laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus.

Dr Khan will represent IUBAT as a distinguished member of the Microcredit Summit Campaign by presenting a paper on Technology Transfer in Rice Production.

Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology wished resounding success of the Microcredit Summit expressing that the experts and academics across the globe will be able to make valuable contribution by exploring more fruitful path for microcredit operation manifesting the true spirit of the concept.


BRAC University Library launched the first RFID system in Bangladesh

BRAC University Ayesha Abed Library is the first among the university libraries in Bangladesh to have launched the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system in the library. The official launching ceremony of RFID system was held on October 30, 2011. The Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Ainun Nishat officially inaugurated the newly established RFID system. Hasina Afroz, Librarian of BRAC University gave a briefing on the use of the new system. Library professionals from different universities and institutes, and faculty and students of BRAC University were present at this ceremony. Integration of RFID at BRACU Library ensures considerable security and adequate facilitates for librarians to provide more value added services to users in digital environment and work comfortably for a digital future.
