CUDS Shapes New Leadership

As a part of dynamism of the organisation, Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) has brought a new team of leadership comprising of 13 executive members. Through the Annual General Meeting (AGM), with the successful completion of one year tenure, an executive body came to an end and made a new panel led by president as the chief of the executive body. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at hotel Saymon in Chittagong on October 28, 2011. The programme was presided over by Professor Dr Mahbulbul Haque, Moderator, CUDS while Professor Gazi Saleh Uddin, Advisor, CUDS was the chief guest and Moniruzzaman Bhuiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Adnan Mannan, Lecturer, Department of Genetics and Bio-technology, Tazul Islam, ex-president, CUDS, M A Samad Hemal, Ex-president and others were also present at the programme.
Seminar at MBSTU
A seminar on "Violation of Human Rights of the Sex Worker" was held in Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) on October 29, 2011. The students and teachers of the Deparment of Criminology and Police Science (CPS) organised this seminar to create awareness among the general people regarding the basic human rights of sex workers. The seminar started with the inspiring speech of Md Omar Faruk, Proctor, MBSTU. Abu Yusuf Chowdhury, Executive Director, PIACT, Bangladesh presented the keynote paper and Professor Dr Moniruzzaman, Pro Vice Chancellor, MBSTU along with Professor Dr A S M Amanullah, Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka were the speakers at the seminar.
Quiz Competition
Department of Pharmacy of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) successfully observed a week long quiz competition from October 25-31, 2011. In the first day of quiz competition, Professor Dr Rebecca Banoo, Head, Department of Pharmacy, SUB inaugurated the programme.
In the prize giving ceremony, Professor Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of SUB distributed prizes among champion and runner-up teams. On this occasion, Professor AYM Ekram-Ud-Daulah, Registrar, SUB, Professor Dr Md Abdur Rashid, former Dean of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka and Advisor, Department of Pharmacy, SUB, Professor Dr Rebecca Banoo, Head, Department of Pharmacy, SUB, Dr Selim Reza, Professor, Pharmaceutical Technology Department, University of Dhaka and others were present at the event.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Ceremony held at BUET
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award ceremony was held at BUET recently. The Vice Chancellor of BUET, Professor Dr S M Nazrul Islam, graced the programme as chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET, Professor Dr M Habibur Rahman, the Director of DSW, BUET, Professor Dr Aminul Hoque and Professor M Manjurul Karim, Member of the Executive Committee of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation, Bangladesh were present as special guests. Professor Dr Raquib Ahsan, Moderator of SHEBA and Md Aminul Islam, President of Sheba and the award leader of DEA were also present at the programme.
Faculty members from different departments, journalists, students and parents also joined the programme.
Daffodil International University IEB Accreditation
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) achieved the Accreditation of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). To commemorate this remarkable achievement, DIU organised the "Celebrating IEB Accreditation" programme at DIU Auditorium on November 19, 2011.
Engineer Nurul Huda, President, IEB and Chairman, RAJUK graced the celebration ceremony as chief guest. Professor M M Shahidul Hassan, Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BUET was present as special guest, while Professor A M M Safiullah, Vice Chancellor, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology was the guest of honour. Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU presided over the function. The function was also addressed by Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, DIU and Professor Dr Syed Akter Hossain, Head, CSE.
Seminar on 'Disability' at ULAB
On October 19 Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, one of the trustees of Impact Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) visited the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) for a seminar highlighting the pros and cons of disability in Bangladesh. Dr Hasib Mahmud, Director, IFB clearly distinguished the difference between disability and inability.
Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, who is visually impaired, read out lines to the students in brails.
Monami Haque, Senior Lecturer, Department of Media Studies and Journalism, ULAB conducted the ceremony.
For a Noble Cause
The students of Government A H College arranged a meeting on their campus focusing various sorts of social issues. The aim of the programme was to contribute to the society as social workers by helping the deprived people living in the remote areas of the country who are unfamiliar with modern information and technology. At the programme, the students decided to form a mobile information centre and took an initiative to clean their campus every week with the slogan 'Keep your home clear first'.
