Seminar at IUBAT

The Bangladeshi born Canadian expert Dr M Bakth, renowned Child Adolescent Psychiatrist from Canada spoke on child health working with William Osler Health System at the seminar organised by College of Nursing, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT).

Presided by Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan Vice Chancellor, Chairs, Coordinators, Faculty members of different Colleges and Departments including students attended the seminar which dealt with issues of declining mental health of children in South Asian countries including Bangladesh. Speakers called upon all professionals engaged in health service to strengthen medicare delivery system to ensure balanced food for children to facilitate their healthy growth.

Earlier, Dr JoAnn Elizabath Leavey, Adjunct Professor of University of British Columbia and University of Western Ontario and Visiting Faculty of IUBAT initiated the discussion underlining some core aspects of child health care management technology.

Dr A S A Masud Coordinator, College of Nursing coordinated the programme which was moderated by Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, student and president of IUBAT Nursing Society.


International Disability Day

To ensure universal accessibility for the persons with disabilities in the educational institutions of Bangladesh, a human chain and open discussion programme was arranged on December 1, 2011 at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) on the occasion of International Disability Day 2011. Before this, a weeklong mass signature collection campaign was conducted in CUET campus. Bangladeshi System Change Advocacy Network (B-Scan) and CUET Debating Society (CUETDS) jointly organised the programme. The main aim of this programme was to create awareness among the university students and teachers about the universal accessibility for the persons with disabilities.


Adventure Tourism in Bangladesh

With the vision “Winner of all Barriers”- and an opportunity to provide through which students can participate in Adventure travelling and promote adventure tourism in Bangladesh and the world, BRAC University Adventure Club (BUAC) officially started its journey on November 10,2010. Md Shamsul Kaonain, Junior lecturer from CSE Department, BRACU is the Advisor of the club.

BUAC organised a seminar on 'Adventure Tourism in Bangladesh' recently. BUAC will be publishing its own magazine named 'Adventure Bangladesh' G M Quader, Minister, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, graced the occasion as chief guest.Ananta Kumar Chowdhury, Director (Commercial), Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation was present at the Seminar as special guest.


Foundation Laying Ceremony

Chittagong University's Law Department's foundation laying ceremony of 'A K Khan Law Faculty Building' took place at Chittagong University (CU) on December 3.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed was present as the chief guest at the foundation laying ceremony of 'A K Khan Law Faculty Building' at Chittagong University (CU) with Vice Chancellor Professor Md Anwarul Azim Arif as the chair. Other notables were Professor Atful Hai Shibli, member of University Grants Commission (UGC); Pro-Vice Chancellor Mohammad Alauddin; Professor M Shah Alam, acting chairman of Bangladesh Law Commission.


Debate Workshop held at Southeast University

A workshop on “Techniques of Debate” was held at Southeast University on November 26, 2011 organised by Southeast University Debating Club (SEUDC) to create awareness among students about techniques of debate. The workshop started with the inspiring speech of Professor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice Chancellor (Acting), SEU. The workshop was conducted by A K M Shoaib, Chairman and Fulguni Majumder, University coordinator of National Debate Federation Bangladesh (NDF BD). Aliya Shahnoor Ameen and M Abdullah Al Mamun, Senior Lecturer and advisor of SEUDC also spoke at the workshop.


NUB Organises Admission Fair

A five-day long admission fair was held at Northern University Bangladesh (NUB). Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB inaugurated the fair as chief guest on December 1, 2011.

Among others, Engineer Md Saifur Rahman, Head, Department of Textile Engineering, Professor Engineer Badiuzzaman, Professor Al Amin Bhuiyan, Head, Deptartment of Business Administration of Banani Campus and others were present.


International Conference at ASA University

An International Conference on “Global Dialogues: Health & Climate Change-2011” was hosted by ASA University Bangladesh and organised by iMart International on November 29, 2011. Minister Abul Kalam Azad MP, Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the chief guest. The Royal Danish Ambassador Svend Olling was the special guest. The Chairman of Standing Committee on Environmental Affairs of Danish Parliament Steen Gade, MP presented the Keynote paper in the Conference.


High Powered Delegates of Open University of
Malaysia visited Daffodil International University

A three member high powered delegates of Open University of Malaysia visited Daffodil International University on November 30, 2011. The visiting delegates members of Open University of Malaysia were President Tan Sri Professor Dr Anuwar Ali, Senior Vice President Professor Dr Mansor Fadzil and CFO Professor Ramli Bahroom. During their visit, they held a discussion meeting with the high officials of Daffodil International University.

Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Aminul Islamtu, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor, Professor Dr S M Mahabub-Ul- Haque Majumder, Controller of Examination and Dean, and others were present as well.


Seminar at NUB

Department of Business Administration and Development Studies of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) jointly organised a seminar titled 'Cultural Biases and appropriate practices at the interface between government, business organisations and Civil Society' on November 25, 2011 at Dhanmondi Campus. The paper was presented by Dr Donald Curties, Honorary Senior Research Fellow, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, as chief guest. Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of NUB chaired the programme.

Dr Donald Curties said that Governments, business, NGO's and citizen groups have to be able to understand and relate to each other and these are different kinds of institutions. But these different institutions are biased towards one or other of three types of social coordination which are not easily compatible.
