NUB Organises Photo Exhibition

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) organised a 'Week-long Photo Exhibition' on observance of 40 years of Victory of Bangladesh on December 15, 2011. Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of NUB inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest.

Among others, Emdadul Hoque, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Banani Campus, Faizullah Kawshik, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Dhanmondi Campus, Abul Hossain, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, City Campus, Ashraful Islam, Deputy Registrar and Saiful Alam Munir, Deputy Registrar, Department of Development Marketing Promotion and Branding of NUB were also present on the occasion.


DBC Fellowship Night-2011 at BICC

The Dhaka Branch Council (DBC) of The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organised "DBC Fellowship Night-2011" for the ICMAB Members at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, on December 17, 2011.

Ghulam Muhammed Quader, MP Honourable Minister, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh, was the chief guest and K H Masud Siddiqui, Honourable Secretary, Ministry of Industries, was present as special guest.

President of ICMAB and the Chairman and Secretary of DBC, ICMAB and Associate and Fellow members of ICMAB were also present in the programme.

The programme was followed by a colourful cultural programme and Fellowship dinner along with a grand raffle draw.


Seminar on “Refugees in Bangladesh”

On December 22, 2011, Sustainable Development Club (SDC) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) along with Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) organised a seminar on “Refugees in Bangladesh” to emphasise on the rights of refugees' at the end session of celebrating the International Human Rights Day 2011.

The honourable resource person for the seminar was Uttam Kumar Das, Deputy Director of the South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS). ULAB faculty members, CSD members and students jointly attended the seminar.

Around 300,000 Biharis and 400,000 Rohingyas are living in Bangladesh, who are still struggling for their rights. This seminar was organised to bring the focal point on refugees' rights largely.


Photo Contest held at BRACU

With the motto “Open Your Mind, Open Your Eyes”, the first ever photography exhibition, Photo Fest 2011, kicked off from December 12-14, 2011 at BRAC University. The contest was an intra-university photography exhibition, and was judged by Hasan Chandan and BKS Inan, who selected the best 62 snapshots from 400 entries in three categories: Nature, Life and Action. Ishika Alim, a member of BRAC University Photography Club quoted that the biggest challenge behind pulling off the event was lack of time, since the organisers got around four weeks to pull it off. The event was sponsored by SEL and Novelty Biscuit.


Eastern University Debating Club Goes To Philippines

Eastern University Debating Club is participating in the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC), 2011 that is taking place at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. It started on December 27, 2011 and will continue till January 4, 2012. Eastern University has sent a team of two, alongside an adjudicator and an independent observer.


Mathematics Conference held at Jahangirnagar University

Technology and Innovation largely depends on mathematical skill and its culture. The nation that cannot master Math cannot think of innovation and they may fall behind in the race of global competition, stated UGC Chairman (State Minister), Professor A K Azad Chowdhury, who was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of 17th Mathematics Conference held at the Jahangirnagar University auditorium on December 22, 2011.

Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice-Chancellor, Jahangirnagar University spoke on the occasion. Professor Laek Sazzad Andallah, Conference Secretary, gave the welcome address while Professor Md Abdus Sattar, President, Bangladesh Mathematical Society presided over the function.


International Training Programme held at PU

A three day long International Training programme on Research Methods and e-Views was initiated by M H School of Business of Presidency University (PU) on December 26, 2011.

The programme was inaugurated by chief guest, Moazzam Hossain, Industrialist and Chairperson of the Presidency University Foundation.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, while Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Head, M H School of Business and Director of Training Programme addressed the event.

Visiting Professor Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haqq, President, World Business Institute, Assistant Professor Tina Umnia Hussain and Lecturer S M Abdus Sakaur also spoke on this occasion.

Besides teachers and faculty members, participants from different universities across the country, personnel from the Chittagong Stock Exchange and GMG airlines also attended the programme.
