Debating Club of DIU celebrated 'Pahela Phalgun', the first day of spring through 'Basanta Boron' programme at its auditorium. Nilufa Chowdhury Moni, MP and the member of the parliamentary standing committee, Cultural Affairs was present as the chief guest while Emeritus Professor Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU was present as the special guest. The students staged discussion, recitation, cultural programmes including traditional songs and classical dances. Jayantu Bhoumik, President, DIU Debating presided over the programme.

Phalgun was welcomed at Jahangirnagar University (JU) with much festivity on February 13 which included poetry, song and dance performances.

With the slogan “Bosonte Aj Pran Jegeche, Mon Uteche Jege” a colourful rally was organised by Bangla Sangsad of the University.

Participated by students and teachers the 'Mohuya Chttar' of the university was adorned with a festive look with saffron colours.

A day-long 'pitha utshob' was held at RU on the occasion of 'Pahela Phalgun'. Students and teachers of faculty of Fine Arts, RU arranged the function. A reception and farewell ceremony to the freshmen and master's students respectively of the department also took place.

Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor, RU inaugurated the event as chief guest. There were seven stalls catering delicious pithas (rice cakes) set up by students. About 40 kinds of pithas were sold. “We should arrange such functions across the country to uphold our culture and tradition,” said Bilkis Begum, Chairman, Department of Fine Arts.

 
 

Valentine's Day observed at NUB

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a day-long programme on the occasion of 'Valentine Day' on 14 February 2012 at its Banani campus. Attractive cultural events and photo seasons on the theme of 'love' took place. Airtel sponsored the programme.


Fundation Day of CUET DS observed

Debating Society of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) observed their thirteenth birthday on February 14 with the theme 'Jukti Diye Gayi Suddho Atmar Gan'. To celebrate the birthday CUETDS organised a colourful rally and open air cultural programme which included fire work, street play, music, poem recitation, funny jokes and discussion on the current affairs, in the university campus. They cut a cake at the Shaheed Minar premises.


Seminar on Global Warming at EDU

East Delta University (EDU) organised a seminar titled, 'Global Environment Challenges and Prospects' on February 9. Dr Hasan Mahmud MP, Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of People's Republic of Bangladesh was the chief guest. Photos and video clips of his trip to the Antarctica were screened.

Keynote Speaker, Professor Dr Kamal Hossain elaborately discussed the different forms of environmental disasters and their solutions. A documentary made by students on climate issues was screened at the end.


6th National Debate Festival Held

National Debate Federation of Bangladesh arranged the two day long 6th National Debate Festival 2012 at the auditorium of Dhaka Residential Model School and College from February 24-25. Around 2000 debaters from government and private schools, colleges, universities and madrasas across the country participated in this festival. Seminars and workshops on different models of debate, cultural programmes and certificate giving ceremony were held.


ULAB Launched Duke of Edinburgh's Award

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) launched the Duke of Edinburgh's Award on February 16, 2012 at its auditorium. This international award is given to participants in recognition of their contribution to the society and their own self-development. Jim McCabe, Treasurer, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation, Bangladesh and CEO, Standard Chartered Bank Limited graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Jim McCabe in his speech mentioned the importance of co curricular activities in addition to conventional education. Professor Imran Rahman, Acting Vice Chancellor, ULAB, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Treasurer, ULAB also spoke during the ceremony.


Cultural function and Pitha Utshob at HABHIT

A cultural function and a pitha utshob (cake festival) were held in Tangail on February 10 to mark 12th anniversary of Haji Abul Hossain Institute of Technology (HABHIT).

The daylong function was organised at Shaheed Smrity Pouro Uddan in town. To mark the day, over 3000 students and teachers of the institute brought out a joyous procession in the morning and paraded in the town. Besides, Close Up star Muhin, D Rock star Sangita and local band star Limon performed songs.
