Seminar on 'Food Security in Bangladesh' held at BAU

A day long seminar on 'Global status of GM crops' contribution to food security in Bangladesh' was held at the Faculty of Agriculture at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on April 1. Professor Rafiqul Hoque, Vice-Chancellor, BAU was the chief guest at the seminar. Bangladesh Association for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BABGE) and International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) jointly organised the workshop.


EWU arranged 'Voluntary Blood Donation Camp'

Rotaract Club of East West University (RCEWU) arranged a blood donation campaign with Quantum Foundation at the university campus on April 1. With the slogan 'Give Blood, Save Life', the camp started collecting blood at 9 am while a team from Quantum Foundation provided necessary technical support for blood collection. The volunteer team, consisting of 68 members of Rotaract Club, contributed to the event.


Center for Business Studies (CBS) introduced Evening MBA Programme

Center for Business Studies (CBS), Faculty of Business Administration, University of Chittagong has introduced Evening MBA Programme recently. CBS arranged a grand launching ceremony at BGMEA Bhaban, Khulshi, Chittagong on April 5 where many renowned academicians and corporate personnel gathered. The programme was graced by Professor Anwarul Azim Arif, Vice-Chancellor, University of Chittagong as chief guest while Professor Md Alauddin, Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Chittagong was present as the special guest.


Global Business Challenge to be held

CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) organised a seminar on March 25 at the auditorium of United International University (UIU). University of Dhaka, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), North South University, BRAC University participated in the seminar. Radley Stephen, Regional Head of Business Development and Country Head of CIMA, Sri Lanka Division hosted the seminar.

This year, the local final for Global Business Challenge 2012 will be held on May 25, 2012. CIMA has also informed that participants for the year 2012 can register at 20 GBP and do not have to pay subscription fees. They will only have to pay 50 per cent of annual subscription fees from 2013 till graduation. This offer is valid till 30th June 2012.


World Theatre Day observed at RU

Over 200 teachers and students of the Music and Drama Department of Rajshahi University (RU) observed the 'World Theater Day', internationally known as 'Fete de la Musique' on March 27 at their campus. To mark the day, they brought out a colourful procession, staged street show and arranged different cultural programmes with much enthusiasm.

Workshop on 'Social Business'

A workshop on 'Social Business' was organised on March 28 at the auditorium of Daffodil International University (DIU). The workshop was organised by Social Business Cell, Faculty of Business and Economics Center, DIU in collaboration with Yunus Center (YC).

The workshop was presided over by Professor M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, DIU. M F M Amir Khashru, Social Business Coordinator, YC thanked the DIU authority on behalf of Yunus Center. Professor Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business, North South University, delivered the keynote speech on the importance of Social Business. Musa Ibrahim, Mountaineer and Journalist, inspired the young people to come forward and help solve social issues by getting acquainted with social business.

Seminar on Legislative Development in Bangladesh

A seminar titled “Legislative Development in Bangladesh for Alternative Dispute Resolution: Problem and Prospective” was held at the auditorium of Daffodil International University (DIU) on April 4. Renowned Advocate in Supreme Court Dr Shadeen Malik was the chief guest in the seminar. Professor Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, DIU presided over the seminar.

ELC Listening Competition held

To help students realise the importance of effective listening skills and identifying the problems they may have in effective listening 'ELC Listening Competition' was held at the Digital English Language Lab (DELL) of Daffodil International University (DIU) on April 1. Professor Shushil Kumar Das, Dean (In-Charge) FHSS, and Dr Binoy Barman, Head, Department of English, DIU were present at the competition and handed over the prizes to the winners. This contest was designed to provide a challenging format to test the improvement of the students' listening abilities.


'I am green' arranged by Earth Club, NSU

With the support of Cityscape International Limited, 'Environmental School Campaign', arranged by Earth Club, North South University (NSU) took place from March 14 to April 5 in which members of the club visited different schools around the Dhaka City. This year the campaign was called 'I am green'.

The prime objective of this campaign was to create awareness about environmental issues and eco-friendly behaviours among the young minds through a playful and interactive session. This year the schools that participated were Viqarunnisa Noon School, Sunnydale, YWCA, Siddiqui's International School, BIS, Maple Leaf International School, Baridhara Scholar Institute and South Breeze.


Bond University Awarded with Five-Stars

Bond University is Australia's highest rating university after earning the most five-star ratings of any university across an impressive ten key performance indicators in the 2012 Good Universities Guide. Bond University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Stable said it is the sixth consecutive year that Bond has been awarded five-stars by the guide for student-staff ratio and overall graduate satisfaction.
