PAHELA BAISHAKH CELEBRATION |
Jahangirnagar University (JU)
The day long celebration of Pahela Baishakh at JU began through a grand procession participated by the students, teachers and other officials of the university. Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice-Chancellor, JU inaugurated the programme as chief guest. Folk songs, recitation, lathi khela, nagor dola, kite flying, shaper khela, bador nach were arranged.

With the slogan of 'Abar Ashuk Jhor', Shangskritik Shangathan of NSU organised a celebration on the eve of Bangla New Year titled “Robi- North South University Pohela Boishakh-1419” on April 14. A Baishakhi fair was arranged on the university campus. Thousands of students brought out a procession with colourful festoons to welcome the New Year.

Primeasia University (PAU)
PAU welcomed the Bangla New Year 1419 with traditional songs and dances. On this occasion, a colourful programme was arranged at the premises of PAU. The students, guardians and faculty members were present in colourful attires and masks.

Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB)
On April 15, a gorgeous cultural programme was arranged at the Ayesha auditorium by AUB. Md Quddus Khan, Registrar, AUB was present as the chief guest. The programme included folk songs and a cake cutting ceremony.

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT)
On April 14, 'Chaitra Sangkranti' and 'Pahela Baishakh 1419' were observed at the BUFT. On the occasion the students, faculties and officials took part in the 'Mongal Shovajatra' in the adjacent areas of Uttara with colourful banners and festoons.

The students of the Department of Fine Arts at JKKNIU in Trishal upazila, organised a flamboyant rally marking the Pahela Baishakh. Professor Md Rafiqul Hoque, Vice-chancellor, BAU inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
NUB holds Workshop on PIC Microcontroller
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a day-long workshop on April 11. Jakir Hossain, expert in interfacing computer peripherals, the speaker of the workshop, mainly focused on how computer peripheral devices can be interfaced with computers using PIC Microcontroller.
Fresher's Orientation at AUST

Orientation and reception ceremony for the freshers of Spring Semester 2012 was held on April 15 at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). The function was presided over by Professor A M M Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, AUST. Academic programmes, course curriculums, future prospects, rules, regulations and facilities of AUST were explained to students. Heads of the respective departments/schools of AUST were present.
Japanese Ambassador visits NSU
Shiro Sadoshima, Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh visited the North South University (NSU) on April 7. He was cordially received by Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Treasurer, NSU. Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean of SOB, Dr AKM Atiqur Rahman, Dean of SASS presented overall educational and research functions of NSU. Dr Hafiz G A Siddiqi, Vice-Chancellor chaired the session. The Ambassador said, “Bangladesh is rich with human resources. Though we have a good number of businesses with India, Bangladesh is more close to us.”
Seminar on Power Distribution System at DIU
A seminar on 'Role of Electrical Engineers in Power Distribution System' was organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) on April 10. Engineer Md Arjad Hossain, Managing Director (In-Charge), Dhaka Electrical Supply Company (DESCO) presented the key note speech where he pointed out the role of engineers in power distribution system. Professor Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, DIU was present as the chief guest.
Class starts at Radio Today Media Academy
Classes at Radio Today Media Academy, sister concern of Radio Today Fm 89.6, started on April 15. A 'milad mahfil' was arranged at the academy premises. Prominent journalists, Ataus Samad and Dr Emamaul Hoque were present along with course participants and high officials. Currently the academy has six faculties--School of Broadcast Performing, School of Broadcast Journalism, School of Broadcast Programming, School of Broadcast Management, School of Broadcast Engineering and School of Broadcast Media Marketing and Sales.
Lion M K Basher awarded with The Bizz Award
Lion M K Basher PMJF, Chairman, BSB Foundation and Cambrian College received the prestigious 'The Bizz Award 2012' at the grand award giving ceremony held at the W Hotel in Barcelona, Spain on April 14, 2012. The World Federation of Business honoured him with the award. With this award, Basher is now entitled as a 'World Business Leader'. Khondokar Selima Roushan, Vice-Chairman, Cambrian College escorted him at the ceremony.
IUB Awards Students
The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) distributed academic awards to 422 meritorious students for the academic year 2011. The Vice Chancellor, Professor M Omar Rahman, distributed the awards.
The awards were given in five categories. The students in the Vice Chancellor's honour's list received Taka 10,000 and those in the Dean's honour's list, received Taka 5,000 for purchasing books.
