World Physiotherapy Day observed

Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) has observed the World Physiotherapy day on September 8, 2012 at its head office in Savar, Dhaka. The theme for this event was 'Reflection of Physiotherapy Services in Bangladesh'. Dr Khondokar Md Sefayetullah, Director General of Health Ministry, Government of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest.


ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
 

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB)

The Orientation programme of Fall 2012 semester of GUB for the newly enrolled students was held at GUB auditorium on September 18, 2012. Professor Dr Quazi Deen Mohd Khosru, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), GUB presided over the programme and welcomed the newly enrolled students and thanked the guardians for their trust in GUB.

Maj Gen Kazi Ashfaq Ahmed, Registrar, GUB highlighted the background and the objectives of the programme. Heads of different departments and students were present at the programme.

East West University (EWU)

The orientation programme of the new students enrolled into the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme of EWU for the fall semester was held on May 6, 2012, in the auditorium lobby of the university. The objective of the programme was to welcome the new students and familiarise them with the university environment, faculties and the academic system. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of EWU, was the chief guest while Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of East West University, chaired the session.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB)

IUB organised an orientation programme on September 8, 2012, at its permanent campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka, for the newly admitted students of the autumn 2012 semester.

In his short speech Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, emphasised on the distinctive nature of IUB education which places importance of professional education on the foundation of cross-disciplinary liberal arts curricula. He assured the students that IUB would do everything to ensure that their dreams come true.

Later, the newly admitted students visited different schools, departments, the library, and cafeteria.


Internet Facility at JKKNIU

The internet facility was introduced at the campus of Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) on September 6, 2012. It was funded by Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) under the management of Planning and Development Department of the university and assisted by Computer and Engineering Department. Professor Dr Syed Giasuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, JKKNIU, inaugurated the internet facility as the chief guest.


NUB arranges Graduation Dinner

Department of Law, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB), arranged a 'Graduation Dinner Ceremony- Fall 2012' at Canton Restaurant, Dhaka, on September 15, 2012. Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh, was the chief guest in the programme. Professor Dr Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh Trust, Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB, and ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, Northern University Bangladesh, were special guests in the ceremony. The chief guest distributed crests among the graduates of NUB.

Seminar on 'Hilla Marriage'

The Department of Law and Justice of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), organised a seminar titled 'Hilla Marriage in Islam: A Humanistic Approach' on September 16, 2012, at the Rupnagar Campus of the University. Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh, and Professor Dr Shah Alam, Chairman (Acting), Law Commission of Bangladesh, were present as the chief guest and the special guest respectively. Syeda Afroza Jarin, Assistant Professor, Md Sirajul Islam and Jahid Chowdhury, Lecturer, Department of Law and Justice presented the key note papers.


Orientation Workshop for Government Education Officers

On September 16, 2012, an orientation workshop for Government Education Officers for primary schools was organised by English in Action (EIA), a large-scale UK Government funded project in Bangladesh working on developing teachers' knowledge and skills to teach English to primary and secondary school children. The aim of the workshop was to provide orientation for education officers from divisional, district and upazila level, as well as PTI superintendents.


Admission Fair at SUB

A three day long admission fair was organised by State University of Bangladesh (SUB) from September 9-11, 2012, at Bijoy Campus, Kalabagan. The fair was inaugurated by Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr A M Shamim while Professor Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, SUB, was present on the occasion. Special discount on tuition fees was given at the fair.


NSU Awards Tk 50 lakhs to Support Research

In a pioneering initiative to become a research university in addition to teaching university, North South University (NSU) granted cash awards to 16 faculty research projects out of 50 submitted proposals. The projects for funding were selected on the basis of objective criteria, such as viability, depth and significance by Research and Innovation Committee, headed by the Treasurer, Deans and senior faculty members. Dr Hafiz G A Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, NSU, presented the awards amounting to Tk 50 lakhs to the recipients at a ceremony.
