PAASCU evaluates Faculties of AIUB

The international team of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU), the third oldest accrediting body of the world next to USA and Japan, and a regular member of the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), completed its external evaluation process for the formal evaluation of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Preliminary Evaluation of five degree programmes at American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). The external evaluation process was held from December 3-4, 2012.

This house believes that discrimination is a must for the progress of human civilisation'--on this motion two teams from Bangladesh Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) and Jahangirnagar University Debating society (JUDS) faced each other in the social science auditorium of Chittagong University on November 25, 2012. In this festival 70 teams from different universities from all over Bangladesh participated.
'Dream! Dare! Do!'
'Dream! Dare! Do!' is an on-campus workshop for students of different universities. The main aim of the workshop is to help the fresh graduates and final year students to learn the right way to brand oneself, present oneself confidently and be able to choose the right job or career. It is a joint venture of The City Bank Ltd and Enroute Management Consulting (emc). The workshop was first conducted in East West University on November 8, 2012. Then it was conducted in Jahangirnagar University, AIUB, BRAC University, Independent University, Bangladesh, IBA-University of Dhaka and Chittagong University. The upcoming sessions are to be held at North South University and Khulna University during the last week of December.

Asia Regional Dhaka Site ACM-ICPC 2012
Association for Computing Machineries - International Collegiate Programming Contest 2012 (ACM-ICPC 2012) was held on December 8, 2012 at the Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel. 150 teams from 64 public and private universities participated in this event. Besides, two teams from China and one team from India took part in this event. Shanghai Jiao Tong University stood as the champion whereas BUET became the runners up of the contest.
USTC honoured at IQCA
University of Science and Technology (USTC) was honoured at the Gold Category for its virgin and uphill leadership in the arena of higher education at the International Quality Crown Award Ceremony 2012 at London. National Professor Dr Nurul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor, USTC delivered note on the vision and mission of USTC.

ACE at NSU
Being the world's eleventh happiest country are we truly happy? Members of North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS) went for that quest through the 18th Annual Cultural Evening (ACE) held recently. The programme took place with active participation of more than 2000 NSU students. M A Hashem, Chairmen, NSU Foundations, Dr M Abdus Sattaer, Vice-Chancellor (acting), NSU and members of the board of trustees were present.
Scholarships Galore at South Asian University
The scholarship awardees for this academic session at South Asian University have been announced. The various scholarship schemes at the university are helping students realise their dreams of pursuing a world-class education. Out of 260 students who applied for the scholarship programme for this academic year, as many as 256 have been awarded scholarships and financial support of various kinds. A maximum SAU Scholarship carries a total fee waiver on the tuition fee which works out to around Rs 22000 per semester and a monthly living allowance of Rs 7000. The awardees also get to stay in the hostel without having to worry about the hostel fee.
Sharif Uddin Ahmed Rana at the Worlds
Sharif Uddin Ahmed Rana, an MBA student of United International University (UIU), and also Ex-President of UIU Debate Club, has been invited to adjudicate the Worlds Universities Debate Championship 2012-2013 which is going to be held from December 27, 2012 to January 4, 2013. Rana is a proud representative of UIU in the WUDC 2013 Committee, Chennai, India. Previously he had also adjudicated in WUDC 2011 Manila, Philippine, UADC 2012 Cyberjaya, Malaysia and ESDC 2012 Istanbul, Turkey.
Admission Fair at ZHSUST
A seven day long admission fair took place at Z H Sikder University of Science and Technology (ZHSUST) at Shariatpur. The programme was inaugurated by the Registrar of the university, Mamtazul Haque on December 10, 2012. Chairman of the trustee board, Z H Sikder, Pro-VC Dr Md Nazrul Islam Khan along with the coordinators of different departments were present on this grand occasion.
Training Workshop at Presidency University
The School of Business of Presidency University organised a training workshop on 'Preparation for entering into Job Market' on December 6, 2012. The programme was presided over by Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, PhD, while the keynote speaker was Hospitality Consultant, Rubina H Farooq.
Butterfly Fair at JU

A daylong butterfly fair was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on December 7, 2012. Dr Monowar Hossain, a Professor of Jahangirnagar University, was the convener of the fair with the theme 'Urley Akashe Projapoti, Prokriti Paay Notun Goti.' Dr Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, JU, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest and freed some butterflies along with other guests. The daylong butterfly fair included inauguration of butterfly fair, children art competition on butterfly, butterfly photography exhibition, live butterfly display, butterfly kites flying, documentary exhibition on butterfly and prize giving ceremony.
