Security was tight, there was a nagging fear of violent repercussions from religious fanatics, but nothing could dampen the Bangali spirit on the first day of Baishakh.

Pahela Baishakh, this year, was celebrated with flamboyant mask processions, exuberant songs of our most beloved poets and crowds adorned in vibrantly coloured attire.

Whether it is an exhilerating ride on the nagordala or a reason to dress up and meet friends, Pahela Baishakh is a day when Bangalis are determined to have fun.
