Unprepared for a Predictable Disaster

Dr. Firdausi Qadri and her team at the Laboratory Sciences Division at ICDDR,B spend hours at their lab researching diarrhoeal pathogens. Rather than trying to find a cure, Dr. Qadri believes that it is more important to prevent the onslaught of these diseases, especially within children. Their research has made a significant global and local impact on the formulation of vaccines for different infectious diseases which cause diarrhoea. Preventing such diseases will improve the health conditions and save lives of not only people in Bangladesh, but all over the world. Being a woman working in a male-dominated field, that too one that is so highly specialised, has not deterred Dr. Qadri from excelling. Her work has been internationally recognised and she has won several awards, the most recent being a Gold Medal by the Bangladesh Academy of Science.
