It is an epidemic on wheels. Thousands of people die on our roads every month. Many more are injured and disabled for life. The socio-economic burden is enormous. Road crashes kill more people than malaria or tuberculosis. Yet our attitude towards this public health risk is dangerously fatalistic. The world has woken up to the fact that road traffic injury is a preventable tragedy. In this country, apathy continues to cost us dear.
