First Impressions Last

Beauty might be skin deep, but that doesn't stop it from being very, very important. Looks matter and this is a reality we all have to reckon with. Even the most non-superficial person looks at the mirror and makes sure he or she is looking alright, at least a little bit. Can you blame them? Idle moralizing about what we 'should' value about beauty or body image does not change the basic fact that appearance affects every aspect of our lives. When meeting new people, whether the reasons are business or personal, first impressions last.

Our cover story is on an entrepreneur and her venture, which is a major name in the beauty industry in our country. Although often faced with a lot of criticism, what this industry basically does is cater to one of the most ancient of human needs (for both women and men). In the context of a modern economy, it serves an ever-growing urban market; it creates jobs, makes livings. It changes faces, and changes fates.
