Bathan

Cowherds, including owners of cattle, coming from the Barendra region of Rajshahi, flock together on a char of the mighty river Padma near Rajshahi City. Every year they come to the char during the dry season to let their cattle graze. They stay there for three/four months until Padma is nourished by the monsoon showers. During their stay there, the cowherds milk the cattle, sell that and buy other food items for themselves. Bathan (this practice of bringing the cattle to graze on an open land) brings these people together and turns them into one big nomad family.
