We commend the decision made in principle by the council of advisers to the caretaker government to set up an independent Election Commission secretariat.

We were taken by surprise to learn that six clinics and diagnostic centres are given licence by the authorities everyday, and that from January 1 to May 31, 2007 permission was accorded to as many as 380 clinics and 616 diagnostic centres to operate, surpassing all previous records.
