On-campus recruitment at IUT

ALL graduates cherish the dream of getting into a good job. In the field of engineering, getting a desired job is one of the most challenging tasks today. Companies are very keen to judge the young job-seekers and they are evaluated in all sorts of ways, starting from screening interviews, written tests, technical interviews and so on. Efficiency, in-depth knowledge, correct attitude and aptitude are the key factors that create an impression on the recruiter's mind. Companies recruit fresh engineers taking all these factors into consideration. These graduates on the other hand represent their respective universities.

Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is relatively young, emerging strongly in the field of engineering & technology. To date, only six (6) batches from Bachelor in Engineering have graduated from this university whose main and only campus is located in Bangladesh, in the fields of Computer, Mechanical and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. So far it has been a success story all the way through.

In the short span of its journey, IUT, a subsidiary organ of OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) has proved its mark. As a gradually flourishing university, the augmentation was further enhanced by the Corporate Presentation & Job Fair by Huawei which took place on the 5th of September, 2006 at the campus premises of IUT.

Huawei Technologies Ltd. is one of the leading telecom product manufacturers & network solution providers operating in our country. With headquarters in Shenzhen, China, it has corporate offices in over 40 countries around the globe and supplies total telecom solutions to 28 of the world's top 50 telecom operators.

Huawei has provided technical solution and support to the top Mobile & Fixed phone operators in Bangladesh namely GrameenPhone, AKTEL, Banglalink, CityCell, BTTB, RanksTel etc. The vendor company came to IUT to recruit promising fresh engineers. The team, lead by Mr. Mathew Zhang, Head of the Wireless Product Department (WPD) was quite impressed with the overall structure of this university and their well-rounded young graduates. Among others, Mr. Asif Zaman (Head of HR), Mr. Kamruzzaman (Deputy Product Manager, WPD), Ms. Shaila Haroon (HR Manager) and Mr. Towhidul Hasan (Training Manager) of Huawei were present.

Both the Huawei Satff and the engineering faculty of IUT had a good exchange of ideas & views “The working efficiency, in depth knowledge, correct attitude & aptitude of graduates are some of the key factors that create a reputation on the recruiter's mind”, said Mr. Mathew in his speech. The students of the '02 batch, who are about to graduate this month, also got the opportunity to be acquainted with this top vendor in the country. They also experienced some of the recent trends and technologies associated with the telecom domain, courtesy of Huawei. They hoped for a further escalation of their relationship in the future and HUAWEI also showed their interest to open a Research & Development (R&D) center in IUT premises. The HR department also collected the CVs of many of the graduating students.

The IUTAA (IUT Alumni Association) took the initiative in arranging this on-campus recruitment. The President of IUTAA Mr. Saifur Rahman, two alumnis of IUT from Huawei, Mr. Taimur Zakerin (PMD) & Mr. Razaul Karim (PMD) were present in the fair. It's noteworthy that over 20 IUT EEE & CIT graduates are currently working in Huawei Technologies. IUT alumni are making their footprints everyday in each engineering & technological sector in Bangladesh. The graduate engineers are working successfully in companies like GP, Aktel, Banglalink, CityCell, Warid Telecom, Ranks Telecom, Philips, Ericsson, Huawei, Motorola, Siemens, ZTE, TherapBD, Vonair Inc., Grameen Soft, Standard Chartered Bank, BMW, Navana Motors, Energypac, Caterpillar (Bangla Cat) and various Power Plants within the country. Among others, a significant number of graduates are faculty members in different universities including IICT, BUET, RUET, KUET, DUET, CUET, Chittagong University, Shahjalal University, Stamford University etc.

For Huawei, this was the first time they went to a university campus to hold a job fair and to collect CV's of prospective employees. This positive move will certainly motivate the engineers & students of IUT to perform more efficiently and effectively in their respective fields, thereby contributing more actively to the blooming telecom industry of the country.
