EWU Pays Tribute to Poet Shamsur Rahman
By Shahreen Raihana
East West University (EWU), Dhaka takes great pride in bolstering the Bengali culture that reflects our rich heritage. Poet Shamsur Rahman is one of the pioneering geniuses that blessed our Bengali Literature. Although he is not among us any more, his literary works will remain immortal and instilled in our hearts and minds.
Dukkhini Borno-mala was the title of the cultural program that East West University Shangskritik Shangha (EWUSS) arranged recently to pay tribute to the Late Poet Shamsur Rahman. It was just one of our fervent and earnest approaches to uphold his great literary contributions. Our honorable Joint Registrar Ms Suraiya Ahmed graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and commenced the program with her encouraging speech. Faculty member Mr. Zohur Ahmed was also present as Special Guest.
The performers recited some of the well-acknowledged poems by the Poet. A short drama followed reflecting how the poet and his works will remain everlasting. Akhtar Hossain Sir also recited a poem that enthralled the audience.
Finally Sagar Bhai (ex-President, EWUSS), rendered a popular number Tara-e Tara-e Rotiye Debo, the lyrics of which was originally written by the poet and was originally sung by James. The program was hosted by Shujon Bhai (current President, EWUSS). The program was the outcome of the tireless effort by the organizers.
