British Council Library
Quenching the thirst for Knowledge

Kazi Ahmed Farhan & Amanat Ahmed

Library does not create a boundary between what is to be read and what is not, which the schools, colleges and universities do. Library has broadened its horizon to enrich all the people who want to learn by providing them knowledge.

British Council Library is doing the same thing by serving knowledge to the people. The library has a huge collection of books, journals, magazines etc. Everyday a lot of people come here. They read on their own interest. Here the members can enjoy free internet access for half an hour. They can search internet according to their interest. Here the students can enhance their English Language Skills through Self Access Centre.

There are different library membership categories. Each category holds customised options for the members of the library.

“Readers club is one of its own kind that British Council Library is providing. The main purpose is to engage young people through sharing their knowledge, ideas, views and reading experiences with others” as said by Ms. Dilara Begum, Information Services Officer, on the new inclusion, Readers Club.

Young members aging between 4-15 years, can avail the opportunities to participate in art, essay writing, reading competition and young entrepreneurs' competition through the Young Learners' activities provided by British Council Library. IT Seminar, Management Training Seminar/Video Show are also often organised by British Council on different occasion.

British Council has launched School Linking programme with a view to link Bangladeshi schools with the UK culture as well as their education system. Right now there are 28 schools which are registered for this programme.

It will not only connect the students but also make a bridge between the teachers of two countries.

Profile of College of Textile Engineering and Technology

Sazid Rahman

Let me introduce our institute named College of Textile Engineering and Technology. This institute meets the growing need for advanced Textile Engineering and Technology Education in Bangladesh. The college has a long past history. During the British colonial rule in 1921 a weaving school was established in Narinda, Dhaka offering artisan level course. It was named East Bengal Textile Institute, which was upgraded to offer diploma course and later named East Pakistan Textile Institute in 1940.

In the year 1960, the institute was transferred to its present campus at Tejgaon Industrial Area. In 1978, the institute launched the 4-year bachelor degree by affiliation with the University of Dhaka and was renamed College of Textile Engineering and Technology (CTET).

The College offers 4-year B. Sc. in
Textile Technology program under the University of Dhaka with specializtionin
