I am a regular reader/fan of Star Campus magazine. I read the issue of 18th march, 2007 and the poem titled
"An Empty Page" by Marzia Rahman attracted me most because she expressed her feelings in the same way that I wanted to express. I want to thank her for depicting her feelings in a poem although she started by saying that she can't decide what to write like tragedy, comedy, farce or a satire. But I think that her poem was superb.
I especially want to give her thanks as a writer and a school teacher. I am a final year student of BUET and for a long time I wanted to write something in Star Weekend magazine and Star Campus. If this letter is published in Star Campus then it will help me to convey my thanks to
Marzia Rahman.

X-mas! Wow!! Sounds so pleasant to the ear. Wait let me shuffle the word; Abracadabra…. BOOM! Now it's Xams (not so pleasant) !!!. Ya ya, that's what our reaction is when this obnoxious word strikes our eardrums. Like some one said, students “of the exams, for the exams and by the exams.”
Lets not get confused anymore. Well I am talking about exams that had hardly let us sleep for the whole of December 2006. Since BRAC University is quite strict about its rules and regulations and tries to keep a very tight schedule, we did not have the luxury to delay our semester final schedule (despite our unsuccessful protests).
We all are aware of what a hectic semester we all had been through. I would say Fall 2006 had been one hell of a semester for most of us, especially for those who spent their last semester at TARC (who would want to study after they had been there??!!) but more than anything what kept us aggravated throughout the semester was constant strikes and blockades. We had so many make up classes that we actually forgot to keep track of our main classes. According to the fixed schedule, our exams were supposed to start from 19th December with EL-Pro. For those of you who don't know what EL-Pro is that's our English language course program. From the 19th it was planned to continue till the 28th of the month. But seems like the political leaders had more up their sleeves. They could never get enough of “Auborodh”! We again had blockade on the 21st. As a result, the exams scheduled on that day had to be taken the next day, which means on a Friday. After that the rest of the exams had a smooth passage. Many of us had to sit for 2 exams on a single day. Man! That was tough! Even I had to go through that and I swore that I would never going to take courses that had 2 tests on the same day. But as a whole, we all managed to pull off in spite of the difficulties that we faced in that particular semester.
New Year, New Semester, New Resolutions! Every semester we pull up our socks and get ready to rumble. Some fail miserably and some succeed with flying colors. But still the hopes remain and we sit for the exams. Agreeing with Metallica I would shout out “Sad but true!”

I owe my existence to three
Bitan Bhattacharya
I owe my existence to the one
who's given birth to me and has shown
me the light of this world,
and drinking whose milk I've survived,
that's my mother.
I owe my existence to the language
for which we've sacrificed lives in 1952,
through which I speak, call my mother '
and
tell my beloved 'ami tomake bhalobashi',
that's my mother tongue, Bangla.
I owe my existence to the land
that has nourished me with food, water and air,
that we've achieved through a war in 1971,
and that has held my head high in the world,
that's my motherland, Bangladesh.
