North South University convocation

The 11th convocation of North South University was held at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on 19 November. President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Prof. Yajuddin Ahmed, who is also the chancellor of the university, was the chief guest of the event. In his speech the President said that the main objective of the Private University Act 1992 was to open up a new horizon for widening the scope for quality higher education in the country. “But with the passage of time, we observed that private universities are facing many constraints, including their own campuses, library facilities, research works, scope for freethinking and congenial atmosphere,” he said.

Prof. Iajuddin also urged the authorities concerned to create more opportunities for the meritorious but poor students in order to build a caring society. He hoped that the graduating students of the university will be fully equipped to meet the challenges and deal with competitions. He also hoped that the students would demonstrate higher degree of personal honesty and integrity, social responsibility and commitment for development of the country. He reminded the students that it is their utmost responsibility to remember their country and their countrymen wherever they stay.
Former Chief Justice and Chairman of Law Commission Justice Mostafa Kamal was the convocation speaker. Later, the president conferred degrees upon 610 students at the convocation.

Error Free Image Transmission Seminar at SECS

Dr. Razzak gave a presentation on Multiple Description Image Transmission Over Unreliable Communication Network at School of Engineering and Computer Science of Independent University, Bangladesh on 15 th November. The most important thing he mentioned is "Error free image transmission using multiple code description". In the communication era error image transmission is bad necessary because due to the tremendous growth of communication affairs, such as telemedicine technology. The Seminar commenced with an inaugural address by the Director, by welcoming the members to the SECS Seminar.


Preparation and Presentation of a Business Case Study

A workshop on "Preparation and Presentation of a Business Case Study" was held on 17th November, 2007 under the auspices of School of Business & Economics, Atish Dipankar University of Science & Technology (ADUST). The Workshop was presided over by Prof. Dr. M. Kabir Hossain Talukder, Registrar and presenters were Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmad, Assistant professor, Institution of Business Administration, University of Dhaka and Mr. Parvez Mohammad Asheque, Guest Faculty, ADUST. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali gave address of welcome. Among others Dr. Devi Narayan Rudra Paul, Associate Professor, Mr. Nazrul

Islam Khan, Assistant Professor, Mr. Badal Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Ms. Jannatul Mawa Nupur and Sheikh Sharmin Shamaly, Lecturer of ADUST also spoke.


EWU celebrates 10th Founding Anniversary

The 10th Founding Anniversary of East West University was celebrated on 10 November-2007 at 4.00 pm at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre. Justice Md Ruhul Amin, the Honourable Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Bangladesh attended the ceremony as chief guest while Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was present as special guest.

In 1996 the University was established under the Private University Act, 1992 by Progoti Foundation for Education Development (PFED) with Dr Mohammed Farashuddin as its first vice chancellor. Dr Mohammed Sharif, Professor Emeritus of the University of Rhode Island, USA is the current vice chancellor of this university.

East West University (EWU) Environment and Social Club organised an art competition for the children to mark the anniversary.


Photography exhibition at East West University

East West University Cine & Photography Club (EWUCPC) organized third Intra University Photography Exhibition at Drik Gallery from 11-15 November 2007. Forty four (44) best photographs have been selected for this exhibition. Easel Mortuza won the 1st & 2nd prize while Raihan Quadir got the 3rd prize. Easel Mortuza has been awarded with the “Photographer of the Year" for his outstanding performance in photography throughout the year.

This is the first time East West University Cine and Photography Club has awarded Ms Sayeeda Khanam "Life Time Achievement Award". She is the first woman photographer in this country. East West Photography club is proud to honour this great personality.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the country's leading environmental scientists and eminent photographer Dr. Noazesh Ahmed. Professor Md Sharif, Vice Chancellor East West University was the programme chair of this event.

Northern University Celebrates 5th Anniversary


North University Bangladesh (NUB) celebrated its 5th Anniversary on November 01, 2007. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Shamsul Haue, Treasurer M Abu Bakar Siddique, Director, HRD M Lutfor Rahman, Director, ED, M Borhan Uddin and well-wishers attended the programme. Among others officers of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Former Chairman of Privatization Commission, Vice-Chancellors and officers of the different universities, executives of different banks and officers of different organizations also took part in the ceremony.
